On his latest podcast Jon K laid out his thoughts on the draft for the Wolves. I really wasn't sure if he really felt like he had knowledge or making jos own assumptions. Maybe a bit of both. So FWIW
He said he thought Isaac is the guy they want to be there. He said he still thinks trading for a vet to help now is probably a preference but he continues to say he doesn't see any deals that make sense. So he said Isaac is the guy. He said if Isaac isn't there the possibility of trading down would be in play. He didn't go over who might drop to them if Isaac wasn't there but it was interesting he said trading down might be an option.
He also mentioned Wolves assistant Noah Croom got an interview for the Bucks GM job. He said that was/is a very good job and Croom getting one of the first interviews probably reflects well on him. He also said that he doesn't get info from the Wolves about how much power or influence various guys have with the Wolves and how much Thibs takes their feedback. He said from talking to other people around the league everything goes through Thibs. That doesn't seem like much of a revelation. I mean someone has to have the final say. Flip seemed to take opinion from everyone but at the end of the day he was gonna make his decision on what to do. I got the feeling from what Jon said that the league thinks Thibs runs the show. I think he does but unless he is spouting whatever (doesn't seem like him) he wants input from people around him.

So you get the big bucks with this kind of reporting? Predict the guy who's everybody says is the best fit for the Wolves at 7 if available. Predict that they would prefer to trade the pick for a vet. Then predict if the preferred player isn't there trading down is an option for who know's who? All he had to do was suggest trading up wasn't out of the question and he'd have every possible base covered, he'd be a hero who was guaranteed to be right one way or the other.

Lol "big bucks" they were joking in this podcast about how Jon was making a lot of money (they were recording it at Jon's house) and him trying to get Souhan a big paying jon at the AP. To be honest I dont think there is much to report because the Wolves are pretty much locked down. I'm pretty sure Jon was answering a fan Twitter question about the Wolves draft. He was asked what he thought and he said it. Like I said it's FWIW.

I think Charlotte is a potential trade target for us if we're willing to swap our #7 pick for Charlotte's #13 pick. The question then is what Charlotte player would we want in return and who would they be willing to give. I have no interest in Batum. He has 4 years left on a $20+ million per year contract. He shot 33% from behind the arc and only around 40% from the field overall last season. He'll turn 29 next December, so there's no more upside there. If anyone is still interested in trading for Batum, I'll remind everyone that David Kahn tried to get him here. That along should be enough to say no to Batum. :)
Honestly, I'd be interested in swapping picks with Charlotte in return for MKG and Charlott'e 2nd round pick. MKG would fill our need for better defense at the wing position. He brings great hustle and toughness. He's a good rebounder, pulling down 7 boards in 30 minutes per game last season. He's definitely a better rebounder and shot-blocker than Batum. And MKG is still only 23 years old, so there might still be more upside there and he can be part of a longer term addition to the team. His $13 million per year deal is fairly reasonable as well. Whether the Hornets would be interested in this deal depends on whether there's someone they really like at #7 who's unlikely to fall to #13.
Batum's averaged 15/6/6 for the past two years. He's a serviceable 3pt shooter which is light years ahead of MKG. Their defensive wins shares are virtually the same (2.8 to Batum to 3.1 to MKG). MKG gets a whopping 1 more board per game. The only thing MKG has going for him over Batum is youth, but Batum is better than MKG at everything offensively and is very close to MKG defensively. 29 is not old. He still has at least 3 prime years left in him which is most of the rest of his deal. He can play either wing spot next to Zach and Wiggins which MKG cannot. MKG doesn't fit in this type of league and the last thing we need to add is a total non-shooter. If we had Batum instead of Roy or Martin or Brewer we probably make the playoffs with Love because of Batum's versatility on the wing that we always lacked. That would have been one of the few smart signings by Kahn if he could have pulled it off. MKG is garbage. Batum is an actual NBA player who is highly productive. Charlotte made the playoffs last year with MKG missing basically the whole year and they missed the playoffs this year with him playing the whole year. What's that say about his impact?
It's silly to suggest that MKG was the difference in either year between making the playoffs or not. Batum played the entire season this year and yet the Hornets still missed the playoffs. Hmm. MKG's "whopping" one more rebound per game came in 5 less minutes per game. Batum is a career 35% 3-point shooter. Not impressive. The past 3 seasons he's averaged around 33% and just over 40% from the field. All that for 4 more years at over $20 million per year. No thank you.

I hope you didn't take that as my bagging on your for posting it as that's not at all what I was trying to say. Besides if we were required to make only quality posts around here my account would be silent! I just thought it was humorous how he managed to cover almost every base!

Yeah, that makes sense as a sort of consensus take on the Wolves draft situation: Option 1: Draft Isaac; Option 2: Shop it for a vet, Option 3: Trade down.
Thibs might very well fall in love with a guy mocked in the mid to late first round that he likes as much as someone like Monk or Makkanen.

Nah it's all good I didn't take it that way at all.

Yeah good point. If basically all you are drafting is a shooter I would be plenty interested in Justin Jackson in a trade down situation.

Re: Wolves 2017 Draft Thread
In a trade down, I am interested in a couple guys.
Justin Patton looks like a solid prospect. I am more interested in him than previously often talked about Zach Collins.
Harry Giles - I know previous injuries derailed this guys season, but he makes me curious. He was the #1 rated prospect heading into last season. He has great size and previously had great athleticism and defensive potential. None of his highlights look great, but I know his injuries impacted his season. Hard to tell what this guy would have been capable of if healthy.
