Here is a case for the Lakers taking Fox. I am not a fan of Ball. He could drop like Noel and Rubio did in the past. It will be interesting.

Wolves 2017 Draft Thread
Re: Wolves 2017 Draft Thread
Lip from what's I have been hearing about Fox's athletic abilities are going to be very difficult to pass on and he loves to play defense. Remember that one game he played against Ball...? :) people keep saying it would be fun if Ball would argue to a head to head workout against Fox but nobody expects that to happen.
Like you said though there are scenarios where all thise guys you mention are gone. It could also hurt options of trading down because there would be 3 guards sitting there. I still think the Wolves can get a good player there and let's remember that the PG position isn't exactly locked up. If clearly the best player available is a PG they should take them.

Would Fox, Monk, or Smith be an upgrade over Tyus and Dunn? I tend to think they would. Ntilikina might even be on that list.

I actually think Fox will be the best player that comes out of this draft. It seems im alone on this take but the kid can shoot. I find it odd how his shooting is so heavily weighted on 69 3 pt attempts. If you go back a bit further i recall him drilling 10 3s in a single game. I dont see steph curry or nothing but a john wall with better defense i do see. I would love to have that kid.

My issue with Smith is it seems like he is a guy that needs the ball a lot is another scorer not that big either. He has some issues kinda. Even some of the people that like him say he could bust. One podcast said he doesn't have an agent and that could hurt him and he might not be getting in the prep he needs to be successful. I know some people are really high on him though so I am not saying I would hate taking him but he is a guy I think I would pass on but I havent done a ton of research on him either. He seems a bit risky.

I don't think I would go that far but I do like him quite a bit too. It doesn't seem like his shot is bad at all. The stats he put up at Kentucky is what we have to go on. I don't think he is the prospect Wall was but Wall was a heck of a prospect back then.
What I like about Fox is he just looks like he plays bigger than he is and he does have a strong desire to play defense. I think he is a guy that if he can shoot you can likely play him easily at either guard spot regardless of the measurements. Adding him would make the guard spots crowded but again take the best player if he is the best player. I think his athletic ability and desire to play defense is going to have him go in the top 5. He is gonna look good in workouts.

the answer is yes, which is why Thibs going so hard after Dunn last year was foolish.

That's highly debatable. People act like Dunn was a scrub coming out of college when the guy was top 10 in the country in assists and steals in 2 seasons and his shooting percentages are very close to Smith and Fox. Monk isn't a PG so I don't think he should be on that list. He's a worse version of Zach. Fox is a twig who can't shoot yet and Smith was really inconsistent this year and couldn't even get his team into March Madness. I think they could be an upgrade to Dunn, but I'm not just handing it to them. The NBA is a different beast. Saying guys are automatically better based on draft profiles from someone already in the league is putting the cart before the horse.

I was literally typing the same thing. It is dumb to say any guard in this draft is a slam dunk going to be better than Dunn (outside of fultz). We don't know, people are making assumptions based on a year of NBA Dunn compared to potentially god nba prospects because we don't know there nba weaknesses yet.
Dunn was a damn good college player as good as any pg in the class on the college level. Dunn had a terrible year offensive year but showed great defensive potential. Way to early to say he is a bust.
If all of the wings are off the board at #7 and fox is on the board you look to trade back with teams that need a pg like the kings (#10) or the Knicks (#8) and you look to add another piece or future assets with that trade

Here's my thinking.
As for Monk, he's not a PG. He's a one-dimensional SG in that you don't see him filling up the stat sheet in any area other than scoring -- not assists, not rebounds, not steals. So I don't see him as an upgrade over Tyus and Dunn. He'd supplement Zach, giving us another 3-point shooter and that's not a bad thing. But i don't see him as a high upside guy and I definitely don't see him as an answer or upgrade at PG.
As for Smith, I'm scared away by his off/on motor. I've been a broken record on this, but motor issues are a red flag for draft prospects because no matter how high the prospect's ceiling, it takes a consistently high octane motor to reach or even come close to reaching that ceiling. He also has some injury issues. So while he's a great talent, I wouldn't take him with our pick even though his talent would definitely be an upgrade over Tyus and even Dunn.
Fox is a terrific talent and by all accounts a great kid. He has tremendous speed with the ball, is an excellent playmaker and brings a lot of toughness. But as of now, he's a poor shooter and that's the last thing we need to add to our current bevy of point guards.
The guys who intrigues me the most among point guards other than Fultz and Ball is Ntilikina. First of all, he's a PG with a seven foot wingspan. Like Rubio, he seems to have that sixth sense on the court running the point, but unlike Ricky he looks like he'll be a good shooter. I might take a chance on him, but I don't know enough and haven't seen enough to have a high degree of confidence.
So I'm hoping for Isaac. Tatum or Collins would be my consolation prize in that order. But I really want Isaac.
