Reports now out that Ball just had his second workout with the Lakers and now considering working out for more teams after that workout

I think Ball is going to be a Laker, and I think he ends up being the best player in the class. Very sobering to think about.

I don't think so on the best player in the draft thoughts. He's got a target on his back from day 1. He's not a gamer. Fox took him to the woodshed in that tournament game and that's what gamers do. They want that matchup and they want to beat you in that matchup and Ball just seems pretty happy go lucky, spread the ball around and play in the flow of an offense. Fox isn't a better player than Ball, but he showed up that day with the intent of proving that and for a game he destroyed Ball. That's the competitive fire I think Ball is missing to be the best player in a draft class. Ball should have been working out for the Celtics and challenging Fultz for that top spot. Even if you don't get picked, show the competitiveness to want to challenge for that top spot. He's not a high usage guy so I don't ever imagine him being the best player on a good team. I think he could be a great supporting player, but I don't see star written on him.

Well, it's started in earnest. The dubious rumors are beginning to fly as the NBA draft approaches.
Old favorite Chad Ford published a piece yesterday suggesting--with anonymous quotes!--that the Celtics were seriously considering taking Josh Jackson with the first pick. I don't claim to know anything, but this seems exceedingly unlikely. I'm not a believer that "consensus" has to be right, or that teams never do surprising things at the top of the draft (see Anthony Bennett,) but for weeks there has been little debate about the top pick, and now this? Smelly.
Frankly, I'm rooting for something like this, because hell, who doesn't like draft night chaos?
Ford also reports that the Lakers are looking at possible trade back scenarios, with either Phoenix or Sacramento, though who knows how serious either of those teams is about getting to the second spot. Given the relative strength of the players in the top group, I would not be eager to give up too much to move up from four or five, but it's always about the specific player and teams do fall in love.
Finally, he writes that Luke Kennard, shooting guard from Duke, is the late riser in this draft, and could go as high as eight to the Knicks.
Which brings us to Kevin Pelton's most recent piece with his stats based rankings. Thought I'd run through guys his system sees as overrated and underrated, and Kennard is a place to start. He see Kennard as overrated, citing his poor steal rate in particular as a negative indicator of future success.
Other overrated guys include:
Josh Jackson(!) due to his inefficiency and age.
De'Aaron Fox, more because he doesn't shoot threes than the fact that he doesn't make them.
Jayson Tatum, because he doesn't stand out in any of the statistical factors Pelton uses.
Malik Monk, largely due to his poor defensive projection.
Underrated guys from Pelton:
Jonathan Isaac, who has the second highest projected WARP in the draft (behind Ball.)
OG Anunoby. His system loves the defensive potential.
Tony Bradley, who he thinks will shine on the offensive glass.
Monte Morris, who he projects as a very low mistake player.
Josh Hart, a player with no real weaknesses who can shoot. Pelton mentions Danny Green as one of his best comps.
This is your open (draft) thread. Use it wisely.

Re: Wolves 2017 Draft Thread
I don't know how Kennard is overrated. He can shoot the lights out, he can handle the ball and he's a good passer. Maybe he isn't great defensively, but getting a guy who can do all that offensively and play defense would make him a top 5 pick in this draft and he's slotted to go around 8-12 and I think he'll end up closer to 12.

Re: Wolves 2017 Draft Thread
I think Kennard might even be a better perimeter shooter than Markkanen and he passes well. But he is also a terrible defender and scouts don't think he'll be a good finisher in the NBA. I think late lottery sounds about right. If he could defend, I'd consider him at 7.
Re: Wolves 2017 Draft Thread
I've been kinda surprised Kennard keeps rising up. I like him and think he is actually a good prospect but he seemed like the type of guy teams undervalue cause he isn't the athlete with size or whatever. Now he is a lottery guy. I didn't see that coming. Is he overrated now? Maybe but man teams really like shooting and he can handle the ball a decent amount and he just looks like a dude that knows how to ball.

Re: Wolves 2017 Draft Thread
That would make things interesting on draft night.
Makes sense for Boston if it's a fair trade. They could take Jackson or Tatum or even Isaac and avoid creating a logjam at the guard positions. Thomas, Bradley, Smart, and Rozier already form a good rotation of guards, and adding Jackson, Tatum, or Isaac to a forward rotation with Jaylen Brown and Jae Crowder would be nice. With Horford, that's a balanced roster in terms of position and a mix of guys who can play now and guys with bright futures. Plus they'd add somebody from Philly if they trade. Maybe Okafor? Covington? And they still get the Nets pick next year. Man, that team has a bright future.
Who would you take if you were Boston and you were picking 3rd? Jackson, Tatum, Isaac?
Philly would love to have an up-and-coming PG, so they could get Fultz or Ball, though I'd be curious what they'd give up to move up.
