I'd add Gorgui to the list of players I'm certain he won't trade because it's clear that Thibs loves him, repeatedly praising him for doing the things that don't show up in the box score. So that leaves Ricky as the only player of value that I think Thibs would be willing to part with. However, giving who we have behind Ricky at PG and considering how well Ricky played down the stretch and how much Thibs has praised him recently, I'd say that it's unlikely Ricky gets traded.

I wouldn't trade our pick for Covington since he's a free agent. I doubt the Celtics would be interested in our pick for Crowder since the Celtics have plenty of picks this year and are already a contender. Portland might deal Aminu for our pick. Not sure who we could include for salary match purposes.

Yeah, I agree that there just might not be a deal to be found. By I'm positive Thibs and Layden will have a bunch of talks with teams about it. If they know they can solve one key need by trading their draft pick, that narrows down the to-do list when it comes to the crapshoot of free agency.

FYI the Sixers have an option on Covington for next season for like 1.3 million which obviously is a terrific deal. He isn't going to be a FA this year.

Bummer! I though it was a player option, but I checked and you're right. Assuming we end up with the 6th pick, would you deal that pick plus Payne for Covington? If so, do you think the Sixers would take that deal?

I've made that option mistake before.

Hell no would I do that deal.

Find your own damn Covington by signing or drafting some dude that becomes a solid 3 and D guy. It's insane to trade a top 10 pick for the next Trevor Ariza or whatever. Crowder? I could see the value of that but the Celtics don't need any more picks.

I was looking at realgm the other night seeing what their thoughts were on Christian wood and yes there were guys crazy overrating Covington saying they wouldn't trade him straight up for Wiggins! I see the value of Covington and how he is a complimentary player and how he isn't going to cost the max and advanced stats for both players etc buuuuuuut yeah. :)

Also why include Payne? That's totally the deal breaker. Lol I do think the Wolves see something in the guy because they played him some and he actually looked more than decent. My guess is he will come back cheap if that's what they want to do.

Monster -- I agree with you that we should NOT trade our pick for Covington or a comparable player. Answering my own question on what the Sixers would do, I think they'd trade Covington for the 6th pick in a heartbeat. As you said, it's time for our front office to find their own Covington via the draft or free agency. Guys on RealGM saying they wouldn't trade Covington straight up for Wiggins??!! All I can say is wow!!!

I'll be real here. If I didn't watch Wiggins game in game out and therefore see the guy that I believe will be a very good NBA player (even though I also get to see his flaws night in night out) I might not be as high on him because he is a volume scorer and not horrifically efficient. His success as a 3 point shooter this year would make me more intrigued though.

We shouldn't trade the pick. There will be a good player available that should be able to contribute as much as Dunn.

Almost any other situation I would want to trade the pick but in this new salary cap era where teams are going absolutely bonkers with contract offers with little regard for whatever the hell is going to happen in 2-3 years I would keep that rookie contract. If the Clippers decide to blow it up I would offer them the 6th pick though.

Bloop -- Who would you try to get from the Clippers in exchange for our pick and what would you consider realistic trade options with the Clippers if they decide to blow it up?

I would try to trade it straight up for Deandre Jordan, I think he will be the best overall player we could get for that pick. I'm very bummed Gobert went down as I think there would have been a decent chance the Clips would clean house if they went down in the first round

Chad Ford says
http://www.espn.com/nba/insider/story/_/id/18800857/nba-draft-2017-lottery-guide-chad-ford

Minnesota Timberwolves

No. 1 pick odds: 5.4 percent
Top-3 pick odds: 18.3 percent
Most likely spot: No. 6

Whom Minnesota should draft with the ...

No. 1 pick: Markelle Fultz
No. 2 pick: Lonzo Ball
No. 3 pick: Malik Monk

Most likely pick: Lauri Markkanen | PF | Fr. | Arizona

The Wolves are loaded with young talent, and if they strike gold in the lottery again, it's going to send shivers down the spine of every other Western Conference team. While the Wolves have Ricky Rubio and Kris Dunn, they wouldn't hesitate to take Fultz or Ball if they're available.

If they fall to No. 6, they have a number of intriguing options. Markkanen would be an interesting choice. He's the prototypical NBA stretch-4 with an elite perimeter game. He'd be a very nice fit next to Karl-Anthony Towns.

I'm comforted that Ford clearly has no information about the Wolves actually wanting Markkanen.

He is clueless about what we need. Issac was going 10th and Collins 12th.

We'd be rolling out Henry Ellenson right now if he ever knew what he was talking about.
