It's very possible BUT I also think it's possible that AD made this request to put the Pels in a good position to make smart decisions the next few weeks and months. They could have been buyers before the deadline and now they know to be sellers instead and if someone before the deadline offers them something worthwhile (draft picks etc) for Any player they know it may make sense to do that deal. The trade deadline is Feb 7. That's enough time to have a deal go through but it's not really a ton of time just a little over a week. These types of deals for star players are said to take a while.

AD clearly doesn't give two shits about the Pels, or he wouldn't have come out and stated his refusal to sign with other teams.

The owners need to rid themselves of the guaranteed contracts in the next CBA. It is really the only weapon they have to try and save competion in the league. Maybe go to a hard cap as well.

How will the non-guaranteed deals help?

Players will have to be more concerned with maximizing their earning in the present. It will help to stop players from signing on for pennies on the dollar for a season or two. It would also force guys like Wig to play harder!

I get the Wiggins angle. But superstars are already choosing the shorter contract route...

I already feel bad (relatively speaking) for some of the lower-rung dudes around the league. I feel like they'd be affected quite a bit by this.

I also think selfishness goes through the roof even more than it does now. Basically, everybody is playing for a contract every season.

The "lower rung dudes" need to handle that by not voting with the superstars on the CBA, and get a more level playing field salary wise. Even with things the way they are most of the bench guys make more in two seasons than the average american makes in his lifetime. Don't really feel sorry for any of them.

I just think sooner or later, most fans are going to give up on this league. I watch about 20% of the games I watched five years ago. I actually record everything, and then usually look at the outcome before deciding if I watch the wolves.

G-league guys are gonna start making a nice living (when it comes to comparing to normal jobs) even the guys on vet min contracts with a couple years in the league are gonna make around 2 million soon. I do agree with Abe some guys are gonna get as big of a piece of the pie with some guys getting a ton of the money (some won't deserve it) but still you have the mid-level which is gonna be around 10 million dollars. A few years ago 10 million was a pretty healthy salary in the NBA. The game continues to grow and with the G-league moving towards being a legit minor league system with every team having a way to actually develop more talent and make more money...the league is gonna keep growing. Player movement is a problem for every league not just the NBA. That's what I see.

I don't think it's reasonable to expect a Malik Beasley or Tyus Jones type to go against union leaders who are superstars.

The NBA was built as a superstar league, it will continue to be run as one. And that includes the players following a pecking order of sorts as well. Obviously, it's been great for business.

[Note: And I know it's tough because even the lowest paid player is making more than all but a tiny percentage of other humans... but it's all about context in this world of "play money".]

What is it that the players always say? It's a business, and you have to take of your family. First of all, don't vote in superstars as your leaders. They aren't looking out for the majority.

Has it been great for business? I see the owners are still begging and threatening the public (and god knows how many bribes behind closed doors) to bilk the taxpayers for renovations, etc. Phoenix was the latest.

Maybe you want to continue to follow a league that cares only about ratings, but I watch sports for the competition, and that is sorely lacking these days.

Only the NFL and NHL seem to have it figured out.

Lol. Yes it will. A harsh penalty, but necessary. It will send a strong signal to other NBA stars who might otherwise contemplate doing what AD just did. They're now all on notice. You don't mess with Adam Silver!!

I'm not saying I'm an advocate for it. Only offering reasoning for it. Guys like Tyus Jones or even Anthony Tolliver have next to no clout.

And yes... the NBA is thriving. You can find hundreds of links on your own that either suggest it or prove it.

There are very few owners who aren't bilking communities, in every sport. As long as there are billionaire owners who are supported by rubes... they will bilk communities for stadiums.

It doesn't mean the business is struggling. But if helps the billionaire owner make another billion dollars... why wouldn't they do it.

AbeVigodaLive wrote:And no offense to Cool... but Zach Lowe speaks directly to NBA insiders every day. It's literally his job to put together lists like that based off what he knows and what he's been told.

He MIGHT have more insider knowledge about the value of specific players around the league than we do.

I don't doubt he's connected, certainly more than anyone here. But my point was most of those scenarios aren't much, if any better than what the Wolves could offer.
