Fill out the last roster spots

Post by Monster »

Ok so the Wolves have 3 roster spots and a 2-way contract to hand out. They are unlikely to fill the 15th spot so we are looking at 2 regular roster spots and a 2 way deal. It sounds like from what Glen told Wolfson they may be looking at some younger players. So what do you want to do and what do you think they will do?

I wouldn't be shocked if we ended up back where we were a few weeks ago and that's with MGH and Amile at the end of the roster. I'm hoping for Treveon Graham (I think he will get better offers) or Pat Connaughton but I wouldn't hate if we ended up with Amile and MGH.

For the 2-way contract there are likely so many options but if we did end up with Amile and MGH I would want a bigger wing that could shoot. Honestly the Wolves don't have one of those on the roster right now unless you count KBD. I think that's what they are likely going after and it makes sense.

If we are looking at vets I guess Brewer is available and maybe Vince Carter. It's starting to dwindle down on wings that i think would end up here.

I'd like my hypothetical Buddy Hield trade to be made, but the likelihood of that is low right now considering Glen Taylor doesn't want to "give up" on Andrew Wiggins.

Chances are we sign Corey Brewer and Amile Jefferson to round out the roster, but I still would like to see Pat Connaughton receive an offer from Minnesota. I also don't understand why Montrezl Harrell is still a free agent and would have given him the full BAE if the Wolves weren't so close to the luxury threshold.

But again, that Hield trade would open up plenty of money both in the present and future... Could use the rest of the MLE and BAE to fill spots. Oh well.

I'd sign Michael Beasley to one of the two roster spots. From what I've seen, I don't think we can expect much offense out of our two rookies this season. And with Crawford's departure, we really need more offensive firepower off the bench. Beasley is a bona fide NBA scorer who offers the bonus of also being a good rebounder. I like Brewer, we just can't afford to add another poor shooter and non-scorer to the roster. We have to think about what we do if Butler or Wiggins goes down for a stretch. Last season we had Belly to play the 3 position. Tolliver can't play there for any significant stretch of games.

I'd use the final roster spot to sign Pat Connaughton, Treveon Graham or some promising G-Leaguer or unsigned Summer League standout One guy I've been thinking about is Danuel House who was with the Suns organization last season. He had a nice Summer League and had some nice moments last season in the G-League and with the Suns.

Finally, I'd give the othe 2-way contract to Amile Jefferson. He's earned it. And if a couple of our big guys go down, which is always possible, I'd trust Jefferson before Patton to fill in.

I just noticed the Knicks waived him. I'd take him over any of the other young guys for our 14th roster spot. But I'd still sign Beasley to our 13th spot. If we filled the 15th spot, I'd use it to sign Luke Babbit.

Love Beasley too, but I'm not going after him if I'm the decision-maker. All the talent in the world, but I still don't trust that he actually knows the game. Sometimes the trade off is worth it, but I feel like I could find better options.

Count me in. B easy makes scoring looks easy. All the talent in the world but just cant be counted on as an important rotation piece. Still, il take him over who's left. We already have our 9 man rotation. We have josh, kbd and patton as young guys to develop. We have our two way player. I will take a guy who is sure to contribute something if you play him over another mgh like player who will just rot on the bench.

Ps. Beasley should sit beside tolliver as well on the bench.

Cam - I'm with you lacking trust in Beasley. But I just don't see any better unrestricted FA options out there. There are a few somewhat intriguing younger guys, but none with anything close to a track record of NBA production. You can put Beasley in the rotation and know that he will score and rebound at the NBA level. Unfortunately, we're at a point where Tolliver is the only player on our bench we can count on to do those two things.

Beasley pretty much plays PF exclusively these days, so if we sign him, we now have 4 guys whose best position is going to be PF - Taj, Tolliver, Bates-Diop, and Beasley.

The bottom line is we need another wing that is a willing, if not great, defender and hopefully can be at least a nominal threat from 3.
