In other words, they've both terrific players, but you can't count on either one to give you more than around 67 games. I would do Butler for Kawhi because his age matches better with KAT as a duo to compete over the long haul. And you'd be getting essentially the same number of games out of Kawhi that you'd get out of Butler. I'd probably do Wiggins for Kawhi also, but it would be risky because you'd be swapping an iron man for a guy who played in just 9 games last season. Not sure where he's at physically now.
Another thing is we have very little info but it feels a little strange/worrisome that Leonard wants out of one of the best organizations in all of sports. Now there could be some good reasons for wanting out but to me there has to be a bit of a red flag there too. At the very least it's just been a fairly weird last few months with this whole thing. I think it was Woj that said yesterday he things there is still a chance he stays in San Antonio. This offseason is gonna be interesting I'm gonna sit back and enjoy the ride.
Him wanting out from my knowledge of what I've heard from different places and from my best guess has to do with the SA doctors evaluating Kawhi differently then his personal doctors. Meaning I think they may have slightly rushed him back too soon, he reaggrivates the quad and decides to blame the SA doctors, fair or not.
I think that is the most likely scenario from what I've heard. Wether he even would want to play here or for Thibs, IDK. Probably not. It's interesting to think abut though.
Yeah I've read that same stuff but this is the Spurs they don't share a lot of info and Leonard isn't exactly the most vocal guy. It just feels like there has to be something more than what we have heard read. There are a few things i can come up with but it's just speculation. Like a I said it just feels weird that he wants out from one of the best organizations in basketball. I mean look how many games they won without him!?!? Regardless even though I joked about it in a post a few days ago I don't see him coming here but maybe I should be more optimistic??? :)
Also apparently he is up for a new contract also...

His circle believes he should be a face of the league and also believes that can't be done in SA. That's reflected in his lack of big time shoe deals as well. They want him to go to LA, land a big shoe deal and become a marketing powerhouse and frankly he just doesn't have the personality to do that. They think he should be thought of more of as star like Lebron, but his personality is that of a rock.
Kawhi has come out and said he doesn't want to be the face of a franchise. I respect that. He's doesn't want to be in the spotlight. And what better place to fly under the radar than Minnesota?
Wiggins and 20th pick for Leonard and future 2nd rounder.

I think you have it backwards. His people are saying he is not respected around the league and his off the court deals are getting effected because he is in San Antonio. That is why he is trying to force his way to LA.

I think what Leonard wants and what his people want COULD be different things. Still think about it Klay Thompson in GS is a pretty low key guy that's very good player and I can see people saying he is more marketable with GS than Leonard even as the top guy in San Antonio. Shrug. Whatever this league never lacks for intrigue.
Leonard quickly shooting down the latest shoe deal in the middle of a season of intrigue... rumors of wanting a bigger market... and asking out of San Antonio...
... should speak volumes about where he'll end up.
Remember, some NBA players make more off shoe deals than NBA contracts. Leonard hasn't been able to tap into that market with much success under the SAS umbrella.

Hard to get my arms wrapped around this. So he's easily a max player that will earn $100-200M throughout his career, yet dammit, the lack of shoe deals! I guess it's all about peer group.....

LeBron's shoe deal with Nike has been hinted at over $1 billion according to his business partner Maverick. So yes the shoe deal is a much bigger deal than a max NBA contract.
So Kawhi can't get the shoe deal he wants unless he goes to LA? Well, maybe LA is one place you can be marketable when you have the personality of a doorstop. But I get it. After playing in 9 of 82 games last season it might be time for Kawhi to think about a new career.

Here's the thing though... and it's pretty sad... there's a very real possibility that Kawhi Leonard will become MUCH MORE popular via all this TMZ-esque gossip over the next couple of months than he has in 7 years as a super good NBA player and champion.
Do you need a good personality? Heck, does Kim Kardashian have a personality at all? Or, is her "personality" created along the way as everybody is talking about her?
