Wolves offseason grade so far.
Re: Wolves offseason grade so far.
When it comes to Wiggins, I've been a bit skeptical for some time, but I haven't given up hope that he can still improve substantially. Has he been performaing at a max contract level? Of course not. But the max contract was based largely on his potential. Thibodeau sees him every day in practice and must have seen enough to recommend giving him that max deal. Some on this board have concluded that he'll likely never come close to reaching his potential. Perhaps some have concluded that he doesn't even have the potential once attributed to him. I still think he has the potential to be an allstar or at least borderline allstar net positive contributor. And I'm not ready to give up on him at age 23. I do think this next season will be a big one for him. I'm looking for him to make a leap in his 5th season similar to the one Oladipo just made in his 5th season. We'll see what happens.
Re: Wolves offseason grade so far.
Each year Wiggins has improved minute aspects of his game in small increments. This year those improvements came on the defensive end. Yes the shots have to go in, and he needs to continue to make devlopments in taking a better ratio of good shots.
For me nothing has changed, He was always called a raw prospect with high athletic potential. I was always prepared for slow development. Many people aren't in this age. He's still better than anyone in his draft class outside of Embid as an all around player. Thibs gave him so much responsibility on the defensive end this year and he showed steady improvement and ultimately him and Taj were our only starters who had any motor in the playoffs. The best is yet to come as I see it.

Playing the victim after you instigated in an online forum is pretty weak.
"He's only better than three of those players? You're hilarious. And getting less credible every day."
This was your reply. Instead of defending Wiggins and his lucrative contract, this is what you decided to say. There was no trolling involved on my end. And it's not new news around here that you are emotionally attached to Wiggins.
Would you like to continue or are we going to squash this?

I'd argue his defensive responsibility DECREASED with the addition of Jimmy Butler. He wasn't asked to defend the other team's best perimeter scorer nearly as much. I do think his defense improved slightly, but again, how much of that was the individual and how much of that was the environment around him?

We can't pay max money for a 3rd option in Wiggins. Seriously. This is insane. Either Jimmy or Wiggy has to go.

It was instigated by you. It always is. Your troll job is what instigated this stupid back and forth. No one in their right mind would say Wig was only better than 3 of those guys. And as much as I don't care for you, I know you're smarter than that. Did you think no one was going to call you out on that? If not trolling, what was the purpose of it? I know you don't like to make yourself look stupid, so why make a dumbass comment like that?

We're kind of stuck. If you trade Wig, what happens when Jimmy leaves? KAT isn't going to want to be the next version of Love - having to carry the whole franchise. It's one reason i think Jimmy is the one who has to go.

He was the lead defender in Thibs scheme. Jimmy was the roamer who would ice the defender and then it was Wiggins responsibility to rotate to cover 3 pt shooters. That is why Wiggins was at the top of the league in 3pt shots defended. This is also why Thibs and Layden has reiterated his importance to the team. His huge minutes reiterate this, including the huge minutes he had to play with Crawford as last man off in the first sub pattern. The enviornment clearly dictated that we needed Wiggins and his D and that we will continue to need it in the future.

I know. It's a little sticky. I don't know what the better option is.

Wiggins isn't good enough to make me ponder the possibility of that. Do I think Wiggins' numbers (scoring wise) go up if Butler leaves? Yes, but we'll also lose a lot more games. Wiggins throughout his career has shown that his best days don't correlate to Wolves success. Yes, we'd be stuck. Yes, we'd be basically be down to Towns without a supporting cast, head coach, and GM, and yes, depending on how you view things, you can judge this entire process a failure, but this is the reality of this franchise, and if we can see this, then Glen better be seeing this too.
The idea that Wiggins can't succeed alongside another all-star caliber wing is hilarious. It's like telling Okogie, "be good, but not too good because then Wiggins can't coexist alongside you."
