Fully expecting a dud from thibs and co.

I just dont think he has a plan going into the draft. My guess is that he's going to draft another big. The one thing that he has shown in his 2 drafts is that hes drafted position that we were deep.

Ricky and tyus? Draft another pg in dunn.
Kat and dieng? Draft another center in patton.

While our wing depth has been nonexistent for a while.

So with teague, tyus, and rose at pg and kat, dieng, and patton at c; itll be a pg or c again.

Well, Thibs certainly hasn't done anything in his two drafts to inspire confidence that he can be counted on to get a really good player at #20. As you know, I didn't like hiring Thibs in the first place and I especially didn't like making him our PBO. It made no sense to put him in charge of our front office when he hasn't even worked in an NBA front office, much less been the head of one. From what I'm told, Layden is Thibs' gopher, and doesn't make personnel decisions. He makes calls to other organizations. But that's probably OK when you consider how horrible Layden was the one time he was put in charge of an NBA front office as the Knicks PBO.

Thibs does seem pretty good at getting players he coached in his own prior stint as an NBA head coach. So credit to Thibs for getting Butler and Taj here. But beyond that, especially in the draft, its hard to be optimistic.

Is it too late to fire Thibs and hire Van Gundy. Do we have to wait till we get blown out in 4 games or not? lol

I really do hope we can at least stay competitive, I hate watching games when the Wolves are blown out.

Well...it would be interesting for context to see who were Tmac's other coaches. I don't honestly know if JVG would be much different style wise than Thibs except obviously much more entertaining. Lol

I just don't think Thibs is getting anywhere near enough out of the talent. I know you want to wait another year and maybe with an upgrade to Crawford defensively, this team could be on it's way.

We have plenty of offense, I would love a better defensive option off the bench then Crawford. I still don't know why Thibs didn't play MGH over Crawford more. Sure Crawford gives some offense, but he's also a ball hog quite a bit and streaky, His plus minus has to be near the worst on the team. It can't be good.

That's one skinny dude. His profile doesn't make it sound particularly positive when it comes to his defensive potential. I'm not saying we can only pick a player who is a defender but...now if the guy is a possible volume 3 point threat I'll take that and hope he can not be horrific on D. I'd seen him in some mock drafts so now I know who he is and watched some highlights. Not a bad prospect for where we are picking.

Svi Mykhailuk, G, Kansas. 20 year old senior, really hit his stride, was more aggressive, very good three point shooter, good height for a guard.

Hamidou Diallo, G/F, Kentucky- he's basically Andrew Wiggins without the albatross of a contract but with better coaching is much more salvageable than Wiggins is. I've seen him play in person (he's from Lefrak City in Queens, NY, and Queens has been a hotbed for talent)

Khyri Thomas, G, Creighton. To me he's a Kris Dunn do-over, only I think he can definitely contribute to the team even off the bench.

Rodions Kurucs, F, Barcelona. He's a stash guy we can bring over who can be molded into a Hedo Turkoglu type of player

Kostas Antetokounmpo, F/C, Dayton, Giannis' younger brother, strictly draft and stash in round 2.

I'm confused why you think the coaching staff have no interest in player development.

At his old job thibs did a damn good job with young players in Rose/taj/butler/noah/asik.

With the wolves Lavine had his best year under thibs, bazz had his best year of his career last year, tyus has developed into at minimum a very solid backup pg, Kat has gotten better, Wiggins has gotten better (maybe not to the degree we need but he has gotten better). Dunn showed one way potential. And Patton was hurt all year.


Now on Svi I have watched him a lot being Kansas fan. I'm torn on him. I think his ceiling is Joe Ingles but I think there is a very good chance he just flames out. Don't know if he will be able to defend or get to the whole well enough to stick in the league. But I did love his game at Kansas

I don't see them seeking these young guys out and integrating them into this team. I still don't really see how a healthy Patton fits this team. I don't see them saying to themselves, "this guy can alleviate a major weakness on this team." I never saw this need to constantly seek out talent. The Iowa Wolves were 24-26 and barely made transactions on the roster, all for guys we might see at all next season. Thibs came to a team filled with young players. Almost all of them are gone. 5 guys on this team are under the age of 25. Towns seems to be the only one we can even see here past 3 years except for Wiggins but that's because his contract is problematic. If there's actual player development to be made, then guys like Jefferson and Brown better have a good chance of being rotation guys next year, but we don't know since Thibs never used them in games.
