Not sure he's good enough defensively to make up for just how horrible he is offensively. He's one of these guys that reminds me of Ronnie Brewer or Andris Biedrins, where he just lost the ability to make shots of almost any kind after decent success earlier in his career, including becoming a horrible free thrower (sub-50% from 70% earlier in his career...just weird).
I'm not sure either, Q. But I'd still sign him at the vet minimum if available. I agree with Doper that we really need another big and it needs to be someone who can help us defensively. So it's worth a shot in my view.
I'll add that Thibodeau must be waiting for the opportunity to sign Noah or Deng. Otherwise, he should have signed Christian Wood. The guy averaged nearly 11 rebounds and 2.8 blocks per game as a college sophomore and averaged 23 points, 10 rebounds and nearly 2 blocks in the G-League last season. I don't understand why Thibodeau didn't sign him to our 14th roster spot.

FWIW videos of Noah in workouts and stuff with other NBA players show him taking and making jumpers. Part of his value offensively is his passing. Regardless he isn't coming here for his offense.
The problem I see with Wood is that while he has the theoretical skill set for the modern game (he really is intruiging and I would have been happy to sign him) he is basically a center although he can probably play some PF but not a whole lot. I don't pretend to know how good he was defensively in the G-league but if he isn't that impressive there or even average at that level that might be part of the problem. Apparently he still doesn't have teams looking at him very highly after he put up some bigtime numbers in summer league for the Bucks who signed him to what I'm guessing is a camp deal (which is what Bazz got) but also have a roster crunch. It's a bad time to be a big man. Okafor signed for just $50,000 guaranteed.

I think the main thing for me isn't his independent statistical value. I agree he is a bit of a liability with his shooting. He always seemed like a good screen setter and passer though. The biggest positive to me is that Thibs actually trusts him and we could get KAT down to 30ish minutes a game. Plus I think he could play off KAT nicely defensively similarly to KG in KATs rookie season. Thibs seems to be using his small amount of money to its fullest. Our 12 million or whatever it was seemed to go a long way with players that may actually see the court.

Thibs trusting someone doesn't mean they actually play well (Exhibit A: Jamaal Crawford, Exhibit B: Derrick Rose). I just don't know if Noah and some of the baggage he brings with him is worth it in what is already a tenuous situation in terms of team chemistry. I do like the Tolliver and Nunnally signings as having solid value because you know those two will fall in line and not make trouble. Noah on the other hand....not so sure.

I just don't see the advantage of bringing in Noah. I might be higher on him if he didn't show signs of slowing down in his last year with the Bulls. Noah doesn't fit what the NBA is turning into and at this time in their career I think Gorgui is just better. Also why would Noah want to come to the Wolves to be the 3rd string center. He is also another big personality in the locker room and if the rumors where true back in the Bulls days the locker room was reportedly split Butler/Deng/Taj vs Rose/Noah. Just don't know if it is worth a possible chemistry problem for a guy who will probably bring little to the team.

Noah is significantly better than Dieng if he can get on the court. He's a great defender, passes really well for a big and can hit a mid-range jumper. The only thing not modern about Noah is he can't shoot 3's but most 5's in the league still can't shoot 3's so it's not that bad. Dieng was really bad last year and has never been able to defend well since he got in the league which is a huge problem to have as a big. We should be trying to get him out of the rotation because he just doesn't do anything this team needs.

I got a feeling that we are going to disagree here. Of course Noah has had a better career and was a better player but over the last 3 years Noah has played a grand total of 82 games. In that time Noah had a defense win share of 0.8 compared to Dieng 2.1 Defensive win shares over the last 3 years. Noah shot 20.7% on mid range jumpers in his first season with the Knicks and his last season with Bulls. While Dieng has shot 37.5% from mid range the last 3 years.
Im not saying Dieng is good, he was really bad last year. But Noah has not been able to stay healthy in his last 3 years and he has fallen off the cliff offensively, also has shot 50% or lower in the last 3 seasons from the FT line. His defense has also has taken a big step back over the last 3 years and he is 33 years old. Think it is a big risk bringing in a big personality who has clashed with Butler/Thibs/Taj in the past who skills have diminished and has a good shot at just being the 3rd string center and does not have the skills to play anything other than C. Also at least in the past Gorgui has been really respected by the locker room and I don't think adding Noah helps at all.

Rose hit like 75% of his corner 3's in the playoffs last year and was one of the few guys who played with energy and speed on the whole team. You act like we are talking like we would have MVP Rose and DPOY Noah if he came here and we aren't. We're talking about league minimum role players. And that's what they can be and that's what this team needs. Guys who can play 15 minutes a night who actually know how to play basketball. Guys who know Thibs system to get even more voices in the locker room to get that into young players heads. There may have been drama in the past, but did we hear anything last year between Jimmy and Rose aka the biggest rift that tore the Bulls apart. No we didn't and Rose was even willing to re-sign here at the minimum. Rose and Noah are role players now while Jimmy is still a top 15 guy. Ego's usually shift when that happens. If Towns or G could make anywhere near the impact of Noah defensively we wouldn't even be talking about this, but 2 of our 3 main bigs are some of the worst defensive bigs in the league so we are stuck probably needing a guy like Noah to help.

Noah is like Derrick Rose. The guy you watched all those years for basketball purposes is dead and gone.I honestly don't get why people are talking themselves into Noah, as if Thibs can get him to resemble his old self (which plays completely into this idea that he can only function with Bulls he coached years ago). I don't care whether he's toxic or not in the locker room (the reality is that the three most toxic players from a locker room perspective are our 3 best players), but this is where Thibs is disconnected from reality: instead of squeezing the last bit of juice from Noah's career, make another Noah.
I agree that Noah would be a good addition as a role player off the bench, assuming he's healthy. As you said, he knows how to play and he knows Thibs' system. He also has great competitive fire. Obviously, Noah (like Rose) won't be anywhere near where he was as a top defensive big back in the day, but I'd like to see him on our roster as a 14th guy on a vet minimum salary.
However, I don't think you're being very clear-eyed in your comments on Towns. If Towns were as good as Noah defensively but also no better than Noah offensively, the Wolves would have ended up in the same place last season. Also, statistically, Towns is not one of the worst defensive bigs in the League. Dieng is, but Towns isn't. In fact, Towns and Gibson had almost identical advanced defensive stats last season. So maybe all three of our bigs were among the worst bigs in the League. :)
