February 8th Trade Deadline

Post by TAFKASP »

What can we get for Wiggins? Jusking kidding. Does anybody expect the Wolves to make a move, and if so what do you realistically think could happen?

SP thanks for teeing up this thread. Here are some other key deadlines for player acquisition via NBA.com.

January 5
10-day contracts may now be signed

January 10
All contracts are guaranteed for the remainder of the season

January 15
Last day to sign NBA Two-Way contracts

February 8
NBA Trade Deadline (3 p.m. ET)

March 1
Playoff Eligibility Waiver Deadline

People like Jon K and Wolfson think the Wolves will look to make a move but I really don't know. It almost seems like they are holding out for someone kinda like they did with Bazz in FA last summer. Who is it? A buy out guy? I doubt anything they do will be particularly exciting. They don't really have any contracts other than Aldrich that they want to move in a deal although it's evening reported by both Wolfson and Jon K Dieng is available. Who is gonna take him though?

What do they do with Bazz? He has a player option for next season for pretty much the vet min so they may not want to just waive him. Would some other team want to take a flyer on him? It's just weird at this point how he is barely even on the radar even in garbage time.

If they're holding out for someone Deng comes to mind, not that he appears to have much left to offer. I wonder if he were bought out if he could give the Wolves a few productive minutes off the bench.

One name Jon K mentioned in his last podcast was Wes Mathews. Would be a nice 3rd wing for sure. His play seems to be coming around. Don't think he's ever going to be what he was, but he'd be a smart bench player.

Don't know how we get him though gorgui has to be involved and I'm not sure that the mavericks want him because he has a longer contact than Matthews. Also gorgui is starting to come into his own. Not sure I would do the trade. I don't trust cole

Just not seeing what we could get out there.

Some names that come to mind for Aldrich and bazz.

Dudley, Marvin Williams, Carroll, Alec Burks, S.Hill

Not sure they are all possible or worth obtaining those multi year contacts.

But I would stay pat, if a buyout come avaliable jump on it but if not stay pat.

Just don't trade the 1st. No trade turns us into title contenders this year. For us to continue to grow we need to develop young cheap talent. Like tyus, Patton, MGH and possibly brown/Jefferson to take over when Crawford, taj and teague contacts are. So do not trade the pick please

That's one name that makes sense
Woj in a trade deadline article and wrote about the Lakers today said that at this point the Lakers have given up on trading Deng because the draft pick cost would be too high. He said they probably just wait till after the year and just waive and stretch him and he gets all his money. He said why would Deng give up a bunch of money to sign for the vet min and play for a few mins? It's not like the Lakers are some toxic team or anything.

I do that trade in a second. Wes impacts a game much more then Gorgui. And we get a shorter contact. Gorgui has player well recently. He's a dime a dozen tho. Wings are much more impactful. Although Wes would only get 10 minutes a game.

Don't disagree with you but why does the Mavs want dieng. We would probably need to add a 1st. Then I say no. I'm just saying I think the drop off from gorgui to Aldrich is greater than Wes to BELLY/MGH. Also don't think adding Wes moves the needle at all for the wolves in terms of getting closer to a championship team
