Possible MLE Free Agent Targets Next Summer

Tyreke is ripping it up so much this year, he's gonna get more than the MLE for sure. Dude has somehow turned himself into the guy he looked like he'd become after his ROY year.

EDIT: On second thought, who knows? Aren't there only a few teams with real cap space next year? If that's the case, presumably Memphis could resign him for more (bird rights?), but maybe he'll have to choose which team's MLE he wants to take, and if he wants to win, ours could look like a pretty good team if we keep playing well.

It's cool to think we may really be becoming a free agent destination by winning so much.

If he keeps playing well I would think he would at least want to be a starter. We are not going to be able to offer that. There will likely be teams that can. You know what would be an interesting destination for Evans? Utah. Imagine him and Mitchell in the backcourt together.

Actually, I feel like he's taken a major unexpected turn from his trajectory as a rookie. When he was a rookie, he was known for his ability to get to the basket. His outside shot was always balky though and eventually opponents figured out to just play him for the drive. The result was a great rookie year followed by years of mediocrity and an inability to space the floor.

Then suddenly.....starting in his 7th season, he began turning himself into a volume 3-point shooting threat. This year he's having a career year, but his shot started emerging a couple seasons ago.

I'm always impressed when players can become accurate 3-ball shooters with decent volume later in their careers. I was kind of hoping Taj and/or Gorgui would have more success this season with their 3-ball attempts, but alas, it hasn't materialized.

Good point. It's always fun to see veteran players who have kind of been forgotten find a way to improve later in the career. It's like seeing a guy get a second chance.

Since we are thinking this far in advance I'll mention another possibility of use for the mid-level money. Resigning our own players.

MGH may show enough promise it will take more than just the qualifying offer (the most we could pay him that year without dipping into the mid level extension). How likely is that to happen? Probably not super likely but using a bit of that mid level money IF he seems worth keeping around could be worth it if we could get him on a 3 year deal for 2-3 million per year or something.

If we add a player we sign later this season (maybe a buyout guy) or in a trade we want to bring that guy back could be another player we want to resign using part of the mid level as well.

It's gonna be an interesting market for players this summer many should be willing to take even a sizeable chunk of that mid level or another exemption unless they are really good players or at least starters. For some of those guys even then they may better consider taking the full mid-level if it's offered them.
