Yeah me too. I think those 2 vet catchers they brought in have been underrated in how much they helped this team in seen and unseen ways.

EDIT: I just looked up some catcher stats and went over to see how Suzuki finished up with the Braves. I know he swung the bat well last year but OMG dude was raking. Heck between he and Flowers they put up some impressive offensive stats at that position.

That's think about Suzuki he could always rake as a catcher, he's just dealt with injuries during his career. Also he one the worst defensive catchers of all time.

I don't know if he is quite that bad defensively. Clearly Castro and Gimenez were both upgrades there (there other backup catchers the previous year were even worse) as well as doing actually ok with the bat. Last year offensively was basically a career year for Suzuki including 19HRs playing half time. Not bad. He would have been DHing for an American League team. Hopefully Garver can be a factor for them in the big leagues this coming season. Notice nobody is whining about upgrading the catcher spot this offseason. It's all pitching. Kinda weird now that I think about it. Lol

Seems like a decent flyer to take on a guy that can miss bats. Can they pretty much immediately put this guy on the 60 day DL or at some point before they have to select their 25 man roster for the season?

So from what I'm told is he goes on the 40 man roster and then goes on the 60 day DL. So the twins will pay him 2 mil this year while he rehabs and he maybe back in august or September. Then 8 mil in 2019, like o said the Twins are only on the hook for 33 mil for 2019 so they have a ton of money to spend and retain there young core too.

Just looked him up. Big 27 year old who struck out 72 in 53 innings last year at Advanced A and AA. He's wild though, and with a 5.19 ERA at AA last season, he's a long shot to ever help us. As a Rule 5, don't we have to keep him on the big league roster for the season or give him back? Odd that we would want to keep a guy on the roster who couldn't get guys out at AA. This is the first offseason move we have made that I don't like.

Yeah I mean um...I guess he was doing well in the fall league. I'll defer to the guys that are getting paid to do their job but it's not exactly clear what they want besides basically what you stated.

EDIT:

Burdi turns 25 in January so he and Kinley are only 2 years apart. Burdi won't be a factor for basically another season so by that time he will be nearing 26. So young and potential are someonewhat relative here. I'm far from an expert but I thought that was worth mentioning. They also picked up a couple pitchers in the minor league part of the Rule 5 draft.
