If Butler or Wiggins goes down, we are royally fucked. I doubt we have any chance of coming out of the 1st round.
A lot of chips were pushed in, and it wouldn't hurt to push more in to actually secure an advancement in the playoffs. That's all many wanted right? To just get to the playoffs and win a series?
We can do that now with the team that is constructed. We don't need overpriced role players (gorgui is one even though he is not a bad player) when we have a chance to get them for cheap via the draft and the MLE.
Also worst case scenario butler leaves, he didn't leave because we didn't bring in CJ Miles he leaves because Towns and Wiggins don't develop. And if he does leave I would rather have young assets than old over priced role players. Where we can't pivot if dooms day hits
- Jeff Teague was terrible. Somebody mentioned it was his worst game with MN. They might be right. When he's bad... he does the same thing...
It looks like the team has numbers with him leading the break. And then he pulls it out once he gets within 15 feet of the hoop. And then he dribbles and probes and dribbles and dribbles... and the team never gets the advantage they had when he first had the ball.

Dribblin Jeff gonna dribble! I hope we don't give back those 5 games we just won.

What was Teague supposed to do in this game? Nobody did anything. People stood around. There was no movement. He dribbled up the court people were covered no spacing no cutting. It was terrible. Houston deserves some credit they played good defense at times and were really getting deflections. I'm not saying Teague wasn't bad but basically everybody had a hand in looking bad on offense. They had basically no answers for those traps the Rockets did on them. It's a test image to the talent level of this team it wasn't a complete blowout.
Towns was terrific in this game on both ends.
Belly seems to have turned the corner yeah there were a couple negative plays but he looks back.

I've spoke about this before. It's not a one-game sample size.
But a 15-foot wide-open Teague jumper... or dart into the lane and kick out as part of early action is a lot better than dribbling dribbling and dribbling before a contested shot is taken at the end of the clock.
Part of the lack of movement is a sticky-fingered (at times) PG. Nobody seems to know where or what he's doing at times. There's no apparent method or deliberation to his dribbling. It's dribbling to passively probe instead of using it as a legit weapon.

I agree, the 5 minutes he played with Tyus in the first half was fun to watch. He does look like he's gaining confidence. It's mind boggling why he played 2 minutes the 2nd half. It's depressing and scary to me our head coach is so damn rigid. Yes he made a couple bad plays but made quite a few really nice plays. They fact the coach doesn't recognize how to build confidence in a player and realize the potential impact a player like Belly could have is scary to me and disheartening. He's just unwilling to bend from his beliefs. I love hearing the national broadcast teams rip how we play, especially our vaunted offense! It won't hold up against the top teams.

There are two trains of thought on this...
Thibs isn't alone in sticking to tried-and-true rotations. Players are on record that they want to consistency with this stuff... especially veteran players.
For us, just caring about a win that night, it can be frustrating. Last night is a good example. Teague was struggling, Jones had the offense humming (by comparison). But Thibs kept his rotations the same. Jones knew exactly when he was coming in... and going out. Like clockwork.
Knowing that the team is ultimately better with Teague, I can see the merit to giving the veteran the benefit of the doubt in a game like this... hoping it's rewarded with a better payoff down the line.

I agree completely with the assessment, well said
Abe I saw a few pretty negative posts in this game thread and picked yours (maybe unfairly) to make my point about the entire offense looking bad it wasn't just Teague. Your detailed assessment of him is probably fair and that's why he is a solid starter not on a higher tier of being a really good player. How high should our expectations be for a player like that? Regardless unfortunately the offense tonight looked more like the offense we saw earlier in the season not like the more encouraging offense we have seen mostly for the past few games some Teague has or hasn't played in. Even getting isolations they weren't getting the spacing in this game they have been doing before.
