So about this All Star Game thing...
Right now, Derrick Rose is set to start in the ASG. He's 2nd among guards with 686k+ votes.
The team's superstar big man, KAT, is not looking like he'll make it as a starter. He's not among the top 10 vote-getters... DeMarcus Cousins is currently 10th with 92K+ votes.

Adidas is feeling a lot better about that Derrick Rose contract right now.

We'll see if rose gets in. Only 50% comes from fan voting

I just found it amusing/surprising that he's that much more popular than KAT.

2nd round of votes are in... Derrick Rose now has about 10x more votes than KAT.
China or not, that seems wrong.
I believe an extra $32M is on the line this year for KAT if he makes an All NBA team. But that's ok, as we've realized, some NBA players make more money off the court if they're really popular.
Well, apparently, playing for a mediocre franchise with a front office and former top player very publicly throwing you under the bus in humiliating fashion is actually bad for your brand, too. Who knew!?!?
Anybody else get the feeling KAT went from one of the most hyped players in the league to one of the most overlooked in less than a year?

Yes, and I happy about it! I think crowning him early led to his not giving full effort on defense, being forgotten appears to have lit a bit of a fire under his ass.

Rose has a big market in Chicago probably getting him votes too. The guy was a legit perceived superstar and MVP. I don't think it's fair to compare it to Towns who was voted and AS for the first time last year. How about Cousins getting votes over Towns or... is Towns getting overlooked? Probably maybe Idk but it probably ain't a bad thing. Also the fans aren't gonna be voting for all-NBA so that doesn't really figure into this.

Re: So about this All Star Game thing...
China swings the vote that hard.
"2003 All-Star Game
West Frontcourt Top Three:
Yao Ming: 1,286,324
Tim Duncan: 1,179,955
Kevin Garnett: 1,086,780
Next Man Frontcourt:
Dirk Nowitzki: 1,079,425
Shaquille O'Neal: 1,049,081
Let's be brutally honest (and rational). As a rookie, Yao Ming didn't have a substantive on-court case to be an All-Star. In all of Yao's selections, there were significant cultural marketing arguments built around growing the NBA as a brand. But realistically, there's no on-court argument to be made on Yao's behalf in his rookie year.
Unquestionably, the current All-Star voting and selection rules would have seen the players and media elect Shaq (26.4 ppg and 10.8 rpg on the Lakers) as a frontcourt starter alongside a combo of Duncan, Garnett or Nowitzki.
With the Rockets sitting only four games above .500 and Yao averaging a hum-drum 13 ppg and 8.1 rpg, he wouldn't have come close to netting a reserve spot from coaches. The chosen reserves in 2003 frontcourt were prudent, Nowitzki, Chris Webber, Peja Stojakovic and Shawn Marion.
Past the selections made by the coaches in 2003, Karl Malone and Antwan Jamison were both having productive enough seasons to take Yao's spot in a redo."
Number 1 by vote averaging 13/8 on a mediocre team over all those other stars. Rose's work in China is doing work now.

I'm just setting up shop for a potential doomsday scenario because Wolves fans are not allowed to have nice things.
Obviously, the MN market has not been kind to KAT's brand.
