The Wiggins contract is a massive problem for this franchise and we need to think in terms of KAT's contract window. This gets us two years closer to having way more flexibility to rebuild around him. That being said, part of the solution is to nail a draft pick or two along the way, so I would seriously pause if it cost us an unprotected first.
Q Conely makes 5 million a year more than Wiggins the last 2 years of his contract. I'm on board with the idea of getting out from Wiggins and getting Conely but adding Conely actually hurts somewhat financially during that time more than Wiggins.
I'm not giving up anything more of long term value to get Conely than Wiggins beyond maybe some 2nd round picks. I live Conley and moving on from Wiggins sounds intriguing but I'm not giving up a future asset or even Tyus to make that happen. Conley's health is scary he hasn't played more than 70 games in what like 4 years? I'd rather roll the dice on paying Rose like 9 million a year. If we want to move Wiggins there will be other ways to do it.

Sure. Conley costs $5M more than Wiggins. He's worth a lot more than $5M than Wiggins right now though.
I want Wiggins gone. It's best for the team (and him). The sticking point is that 1st round pick. I'd be more willing to get on board if there were more protections on it.
And if Conley comes in... obviously Teague has to be heading out, too.

This is exactly how I feel as well
Yup.
Monster, the $5M extra we pay is a small price to pay to unload the $60M of cap space that gets freed up because Conley's deal expires two years before Wiggins. This is more about finding a way out of Wiggins deal than it is about Conley, although he'd certainly be an upgrade to Teague.
Conley
Okogie
RoCo
Saric
KAT
Not a bad starting 5. Conley gives us more scoring and 3-point shooting than Teague and is probably the better defender.
Lots of discussion here about whether we would be willng to take Conley and Gasol, two players who are performing, off of Memphis' hands. Can someone explain why Memphis would give up its two best players for an underperforming guy with little heart on a long-term max contract...even if they got a middle first rounder with it? Let's not stop with just unloading Wig. If Memphis is that dumb, maybe they are craving Gorgui too.

I saw a tweet that suggested the Grizz Owner was more involved in this than anyone else and its very possible everyone including Chris Wallace and JB were gonna be out after the year. If the idea is just dump Wiggins why not call and ask for basically a straight up trade of Wiggins for Parsons? If the Grizz had interest Wiggins (you may be right tht they don't) they could still get some stuff for Conley and Gasol in other deals while adding a young talent in Wiggins for just having to pay him...Which they could be back to what they were years ago a poor FA destination. I don't see the Wolves actually moving Wiggins especially for that type of deal, but I see dealing Wiggins for something like that (could happen this offseason) as a better move than bringing on Conley who is worth a large chunk of his money...if he plays. IF.........he doesn't he is hurting the team even more than Wiggins. Plus if you have to add something of value to get the Conely deal done...Its a risky move. I thought we we looking at the correct timeline type of deals now.
WildWolf2813 wrote:I have no problem jettisoning Wiggins to Memphis for Parsons, let alone Conley
Lord...I get we want to get rid of Wiggins, but this board would implode next season if we were paying Chandler Parsons $25MM to play like 5 games next season. Ain't no way he takes a buyout for cheap, and ain't no way any other team takes his contract....expiring or not.
I believe there will be deals out there for Wiggins that are a lot better than this. There is a fact that many teams are starved for any talent, unproven or not. Wiggins gets points (inefficiently), and a team will value that simple skill. And everyone LOVES a pet project where they are sure they can get more out of them than their last employer. Just like many on this board thought Wiggins would be a different player under anyone not named Thibs.....just sayin.....

I agree. Unless they think they have the assets to effectively change the makeup of the team to the extent they did by bringing in Cassell and Sprewell way back when then the players they pursue have to fit KAT's timeline. The biggest hindrance to making that kind of change is you have to dump Wiggins, and that is going to cost you, depleting the assets available to acquire the stars you need.
