May not be a problem if none of this happened until the offseason, as it's possible all three will move on of their own volition (unless we match the offer for Tyus, which I am hoping we do).

I'd like both Tyus and Rose to stay. Rose is giving us the type of elite play we are seeking.

The problem with Rose is durability and defense. We're also something like 6-3 when he doesn't play, so it's not like we've imploded without him.

It's an upgradeable position without a clear young prospect that could be the upgrade. Wiggins is tough to upgrade with his contract and value around the league and Covington is just really good making him hard to get an actual upgrade. And we have Okogie as a developmental prospect on the wing. Towns obviously has few players who upgrade his position. There aren't many 4's who actually make big impacts on the game anymore to make a significant playoff/championship upgrade at that spot. And we have Saric who is potentially our long-term piece there. So the two best upgrade paths are PG or getting a ball dominant all-star wing for Wiggins. Which do you think is more realistic to get?

We are not going to get the elite player we need to pair with KAT via trade. We don't have the assets to get a budding young allstar. Getting an older injury-prone player like Conley is possible but would be a terrible move.

I think we can be a playoff team with KAT, Covington, Wiggins, Saric, Okogie and Tyus as our core, combined with a couple decent free agent additions and maybe some of our current bench pieces like Rose and Taj. But to be a true contender, we need Okogie to become a star or we need to land a future star an upcoming draft. Getting the quality free agents we need to secure a playoff position next season will require us to clear Teague's salary from the roster. Ideally, we'd clear Wiggins but I don't see a deal materializing that would clear his salary and I wouldn't deal him if it meant giving up future draft picks.

I'm on board with improving the team each day if you can. A deal around Teague +filler for Conley would absolutely do that. I know the counter is what about the future, but our future is fucked if we don't show we're serious about improving the team everyday. I still say we go high risk after Kemba for a 30 game rental/sales pitch, but Conley is a huge upgrade to Teague. Teague + Taj is huge Cap relief. I'm sure Memphis could do better but that would at least get our foot in the door.

The Wolves can't get their elite player via trade? Lip I disagree with that assumption. That's EXACTLY how they can get that type of player IF we keep building and be a playoff teams as you suggest. That's how the Rockets got CP3 or the Sixers got Jimmy. OKC and Toronto dealt for PG and Leonard. Sure we don't have a Derozan to deal but you never know what a team is prioritizing and what they are willing to give up. Getting an elite player via trade is a just another reason why you build your team with assets. I'm not advocating te Wolves make a deal like some of those but it's also very realistic to think we could be in position to do one of those deals at some point.

Wiggins might have the worst contract in basketball followed by John Wall and Mike Conley Jr.. We're not going to get out of that deal easily.

Exactly right. Were talking Rashard Griffith and Amare Stoudamire bad.

Lord...I get we want to get rid of Wiggins, but this board would implode next season if we were paying Chandler Parsons $25MM to play like 5 games next season. Ain't no way he takes a buyout for cheap, and ain't no way any other team takes his contract....expiring or not.

I believe there will be deals out there for Wiggins that are a lot better than this. There is a fact that many teams are starved for any talent, unproven or not. Wiggins gets points (inefficiently), and a team will value that simple skill. And everyone LOVES a pet project where they are sure they can get more out of them than their last employer. Just like many on this board thought Wiggins would be a different player under anyone not named Thibs.....just sayin.....

I already come in with the expectations that Parsons isn't gonna do much of anything, but at least I'd know in a year he's off our books.

If you can point to a suitor that will offer more for Wiggins, then don't think about it and just pull the trigger on the deal. There's no saving him here. Those who choose not to get rid of Wiggins at every turn still have that belief that all we need is the right coach or the right jersey or the right whatever to get him right and it's not gonna happen. I mean the guy gets called out by every announcer possible now. I'm not sure there's a team so talent starved that they'll welcome Wiggins on a max deal. They didn't stop making wings when Wiggins came out. Whatever the case, this organization simply doesn't have what it takes to get the best out of Wiggins. If someone else does, godspeed because I'm not sure anyone else does, but keeping him here is pretty much guaranteeing that Towns will regret staying here long term.
