You Can Never Have Enough Wings?

Post by Lipoli390 »

The Wolves have worked hard starting in last summer's draft and continuing through this season's trade period to accumulate as many wings as possible. By my count, we currently have XX wings on the roster:

1. Wiggins
2. Okogie
3. Culver
4. Nowell
5. Crabbe
6. Beasley
7. Martin.

I'm not sure how the organization is going to get a good look at them in action. There are all either mediocre or unproven players. If the point is to evaluate them, there aren't enough minutes to go around. I like the potential of Martin and Nowell, but their playing time will suffer from the acquisition of and Beasley and Crabbe. I just can't understand what Rosas is thinking. He seems to have a single-minded obsession for DLO and I suspect the Beasley deal is intended in some way to pave the way for a draft-day DLO deal. In any event, I have no confidence in Rosas.

I enjoyed watching Martin, Nowell, McLaughlin, Okogie and Reid tonight against Atlanta. I'd like to see those guys play a lot for the rest of the season. But I have no idea what this organization has in mind.

This seems to be a current trend in the NBA, since you are switching everyone on defense it makes sense to have lots of guys who can defend in space well but have size. Short PG specific guys can be detriments on defense. Centers are still needed I think, but they should be able to shoot the 3 and defend in space a bit.

But it could also mean that Rosas just wants DLO and is trying to acquire more assets to offer them. But then why were they just not included in the trade already? I think the DLO deal is dead. Unless Rosas overpays.

Lip, Here is Rosas' thinking in my opinion. I'm not defending it, just trying to explain it:

1. You need stars to win in the NBA.
2. You want your stars to be a similar age.
3. Shoot tons of 3s.
4. Play a switching defense, which is most easily done with lots of wings.
5. Keep churning the roster until you find guys that fit. The more darts you throw, the higher likelihood of hitting a bullseye.

The pursuit of DLO can be explained by #1, 2, and 3 above. While I don't think DLO is a star, he's probably the closest thing to one that can actually be obtained without emptying the cupboards.

#3, 4, and 5 explain the recent acquisitions.

Q . . . Agree with your assessment on what's going on, the issue is Rosas is looking to trade his most versatile and talented wing that can and does switch and guard multiple positions . . . and we have a sieve at center that guards zero positions (I will say that he loves to call the switch against pg's that eat him up).

(His feet and hips are so wrong right now, he needs to learn from Gorgui how to hedge defend drives).

Shouldnt we just call KAT a wing and treat him as such?

I think the best thing we could do with KAT is just make him our shitty wing defender and find a real inside presence. Its so sad to think that someone that talented cant play D. But just make KAT our 3, its what he wants as far as I can tell.
