When I saw it was only top 3 protected, not lottery protected like I was hoping I was pretty angry too. This team has no excuses next year to not make the playoffs, can't tank anymore. So this season is a waste we have to make good on the draft for sure.

The second is also important because of the hs kids. The draft gets blown open once the hs kids are eligible. 2nd round talent will probably be similar to first round talent.

There really were never that many HS guys who were so good that drafts had double digit first round picks available in the second. Just getting a HS guy good enough to stick in the league was hard enough. I think the high school angle is way overblown here. Even last year Zion didn't come into college as the number 1 prospect and he was labeled as pretty much just a dunker before Duke. He improved his draft stock immensely by going to college and showing he was more than just a dunker and became the number 1 pick because of it. We never saw a dozen high schoolers take over the draft so why would that be different now? You'll get a couple maybe at the top and then a couple in the second round who just want any money as soon as possible, but overall you aren't injecting another 10-15 guys in the draft that will blow open the draft. College will still be a better tool for a lot of players than just going pro.

Thank you. Everyone here is getting all jacked up about draft picks. How's that been working out for us?

Teams will always overrate youth. My point is that good college guys will drop to the second because of it.

2021 might not be the double draft, but just because we haven't found a good second rounder yet doesnt make it an asset to throw away.

This team could still burn for all I care.

But Wiggins is gone, and for that impossible dream to be reached, I can't really complain.

How about you just chill out and let us play some games at this point? We are literally no worse off today than we were yesterday because Wiggins/Towns wasn't getting it done and you aren't getting back someone better than Russell for Wiggins in any other trades. You are picking an awfully weird time to have a complete meltdown about this franchise. It's probably not healthy to have a championship or bust mentality while being a MN sports fan in any capacity outside of the WNBA.

Jeez, you just don't get it. This is NOT a Wig vs Russell thing. And maybe we are better today than we were yesterday. But KAT/Russ is not going to get you anywhere significant - ever. And no, either was Wig with KAT. I get that. But we just committed to yet another losing scenario, one that will not be easy to get out of. It's the short-sightedness of the plan I just can't deal with. Rocket ball hasn't even worked for the Rockets. I was just hoping for a plan that had some real basis behind it. Not throw one immature guy in with an even more immature guy and hope it all magically works out. It's just very disappointing.

Rocket ball hasn't worked for the Rockets because they haven't won a ring. If the Wolves reached a point where they're frustrated about not getting over the hump to reach the Finals year after year, that means you're in the middle of the most successful Wolves run EVER.

Cool is only about rings though which is why being a fan of the Timberwolves was such a good life decision for him.

Im still more baffled about the cov trade.

Cov is the perfect type of wing between dlo and kat.

Maybe there were concerns about the knee? Maybe the advanced stats the team has shows progressive slippage in his game that will only exacerbate with age?

Because you're right. A veteran who plays defense... who shoots threes... who's well liked by the star player... who's on a decent contract... who doesn't need the ball... who can play multiple positions...

Seems EXACTLY like the guy the Wolves would seek.

lol

take it from someone who watched D'Angelo Russell here in Brooklyn. for a franchise that has since moved on to sign Kyrie Irving and Kevin Durant, Nets fans owe so much to Russell for making that situation cool. He was a reclamation project which cost them their best player (Brook Lopez) and became an all-star and brought a lot of credibility to the vision Sean Marks and Kenny Atkinson wanted. Will he do that here? I don't know, but in an alternate world, Nets fans woulda signed Durant but kept Russell. That's how much it hurt fans to see him go.

There's flaws in his game, but for everyone to go nuts about a top 3 protected pick in 2021 is basically confirming that there's no belief in anything this team will do going forward. They might be right, but then why pretend any suggested move would work? Personally, I got sick of watching Wiggins, so they coulda brought back anyone and it woulda been refreshing. But now it's all on KAT and D'Lo. If they fail, no amount of picks and assets were gonna save this team.

This has been the worst season for me thus far. Ever. I have not watched an entire game in nearly two months. It was just too frustrating watching this team play.

But the swap of Wiggins for Russell changes my outlook. Yeah, I know KAT and Russell have deficiencies, but a team with KAT and Wiggins as the foundation has proven to be unworkable. You cannot have a dynamic duo when neither one is a legit ball handler, not to mention there is nothing about Wiggins' game that suggests he can be part of a dynamic duo.

If nothing else, my interest is peaked again. I am interested to see how this team plays together and how it develops. And the change-over of so much of the roster only enhances that interest. So I will start watching again and hope I see enough promise that I stay intrigued through the rest of the season.
