Re: Josh Richardson question
Butler and Gorgui for Richardson, Adebayo and Tyler Johnson. That's a fair trade, a simple deal and one I could get excited about. I'd ask for Miami's 2019 pick with lottery protection, but at this point getting Richardson and Adebayo with T. Johnson would be enough. My ideal remains a deal that simply swaps Butler for Richardson, Adebayo and Winslow, but I don't see Miami agreeing to that one.
Tyler Johnson would be necessary for salary-match purposes. The only other two realistic alternatives to Tyler Johnson would be Whiteside or Waiters. Whiteside is the only one of these 3 I would flatly refuse to accept. His $27 million per year salary with 2 seasons left and his attitude issues combine to make him toxic. It's a close call between T. Johnson and Waiters. Johnson has a much bigger salary of around $20 million compared to Waiter's salary of about $12 million. But Johnson's deal has 2 years left, Waiters 3. Moreover, Johnson is a very good 3-point shooter and seems to be a better teammate than Waiters. I'd opt for the bigger salary for one less year and get better 3-point shooting. However, if push came to shove, I'd take Waiters instead, in which case I'd insist on the 2019 pick with lottery protection.
