Offseason Targets

Post by TheFuture »

I wanted to make a thread to discuss offseason targets while weighing how many rotational players we are away from being competitive in the West.

People talk about throwing a big offer at Millsap, Griffen, Ibaka, etc. Griffen and Ibaka I definitely wouldnt complain about. But, considering our bench play over recent years are any of those signings a worthwhile investment? Would two signings of good players be better? How about 3 league average players?

Furthermore, what would signing a max player this offseason mean for retaining KAT, Wiggins, and Zach? I'm not well versed in the contract noise, so i'm not sure if we would be able to keep them all on our team or not.

Consider: 1 max signing vs. 2 12-16 mil signings vs. 3 signings a step above last year's Rush, Aldrich, Hill signings.

I'll provide an example sticking strictly to UFA, but am interested in all potential options like what you perceive it would cost to nab Ingles from Utah.

Ibaka vs. A. or J. Johnson and Tucker vs. Casspi and Brandon Bass and Tony Allen.

This offseason will show Glen's true colors, he's put up big bucks for the leadership but will he spend on the actual roster? To answer your question we can go over the salary cap to retain our core because we own their bird rights. I don't think we can go wrong with either a big Ibaka type signing or multiple bench players that can move the needle, just need the ok from up top will be the challenging part.

What's it gonna be Glen!?

I don't know about specific names. Will have to look more. But unless it's a BIG acquisition, a veteran guy who can be THE guy, I don't think one veteran is enough. I think they need a couple of guys who can start to teach a winning culture via osmosis.

....

Just checked on possible free agents. Meh. But I notice both Mike Muscala and Kris Humphries are unrestricted. Let's go full provincial and bring both in to join Tyus and Aldrich.

How do we get Rashad Vaughn from the Bucks?

As far as being THE guy, do you mean on offense? defense? the locker room? All 3?

I'm beginning to err on the side of caution. I love Ibaka's fit, but I worry about it being too soon to make a big investment on this time. Yes, it will be looked at as "conservative", but I would prefer to let shabazz walk, retire pek, and go for the 3 bench players on 2-3 year deals (none of which are Muscala or Humphries :dead: ).

Tyus Jones, but that ruins the narrative.

We screwed up last year not making an offer to Jon Leuer.

And bringing the thread back on track...

Despite my constant Wiggins complaining, I don't see him going anywhere. Assuming there was any truth to the trade deadline chatter, the Wolves will be looking for another big. I figure the offseason targets will be a starting PF, a backup SG and a backup SF (all 3 will be "veterans").

IF Rubio is traded, then we will also target a vet PG to join the competition with Dunn and Tyus.

I assume we will keep our draft pick, but not count on him contributing much the first year.

But priority #1 will be a starting PF.
