Knowing it's his last big deal...
I'd think the number of years would be important for Randolph... or he'd be ring-chasing... either way... probably wouldn't work here.
I understand. I just think I would be willing to go Max contract for a year for right veteran. Maybe a guy like Joe Johnson or Zobo that are past their prime. If you are offering 5M more a year with a second year team option at same max with 1M buyout I could see them biting.
I kinda forgot about Dudley, but he would be a great target for us (trade, right? I don't believe he's an UFA). He's actually a pretty solid defender and hits the 3-ball at an above average clip (well, above average by Wolves standards, that's for sure). He'd be an excellent fit.
Tucker, Thabo, Dudley....liking that list of options.

My guess is Dudley isn't really going to get moved in a trade by the Suns unless they get blown away unless he wants out. They signed him last summer to a 3 year deal to be a solid vet and a mentor and I don't know why they would abandon that now. I was interested in him last summer but the Suns blew away any offer I would have given him. Good for them.
We're already talking ourselves into 3rd tier guys. It hurts. Why not Milsap or Ibaka? Either makes us a much better team with no financial impact beyond making Glen spend luxury tax which he has been saving since Cassel left.

It doesn't matter what we talk ourselves out of since it's not us making the decisions or being consulted on them! I'm all for going all-in on Milsap, but the reality is there will probably be nearly a half dozen other teams willing to do the same thing. I'm balky on Ibaka....don't like the steady decline in his game and wonder if we already have a cheaper version of him in Dieng.

Dieng is nowhere near Ibaka at the 4. He just doesn't have the quickness or athleticism Ibaka does. I like G as a backup 5, but have always disliked him starting.
It won't matter who we sign this off-season if Wiggins and KAT continue to dominate the usage, but don't create shots for teammates.
I mean, the main reason we were last in 3-point attempts is that our 2 guys who take the majority of our FG attempts, don't take very many 3s. Thus as a team, we don't take a lot of 3s. This is the kind of stuff that is really depressing about our young core. They may be able to rack up the highlight plays, but if they don't make their teammates better, we will be lottery bound once again.

4 years for max or near max money is why some people would take lesser players for less money shorter contracts. Yes it sucks but sometimes the lesser signings end up being better than expected and there are plenty of times teams spends that big money for good players and it doesn't work out.

Dudley was one of my top targets last year and I thought the dollar amount was fine. So we need to sign this year's version of Dudley in free agency. James Johnson, Sefolosha and Tucker are probably the closest matches off the top of my head.

I agree that Ibaka is better guarding in space, but there are other things Dieng is better than Ibaka at. There is no question he'd help with our depth since it would force Dieng to the bench. But Paul Milsap and Taj Gibson accomplish the same thing.
