At his age I thought he might take $10 million per year on a 4-year deal. If not, I'd offer $15 million for 2 years. That would line up with the upcoming max deal for KAT in 2019/20.
Redick will command at least $17 per year on a 4 year deal. I don't think Redick is worth it.
That makes sense I agree with what you are saying there. Thanks for the reply.
don't look at how much you're paying the player. Just worry about whether you want the player on this team. Unused cap space is not gonna roll over. If it takes paying a good player a bad contract, so be it. That money's gonna get burned on our own guys leaving little to no room to add more players via free agency. The contract may be bad, but at the end of the day, not using the cap space would be worse than adding a useful player on a bad deal.

I agree, Wild. It's my hope that the $24 million cap space we have to spend this summer can be spent better than using $17 million of those dolllars on JJ Redick.
If free agency completely bombs for the Wolves, what would people think of trading for Dwight Howard? He has obviously fallen off from what he once was but he could still be a very good defensive anchor and rim runner for Rubio. I only ask since an article was published about how his market would be a 2nd round pick if the Hawks need cap room. Wolves could ask for their first rounder back in this scenario as well. I know he is not the name anyone hopes for but he could be a big boost to the defense and has quite a bit of playoff experience.

Phenom -- I mentioned Howard as a possible trade target for the Wolves in another threat or maybe earlier in this one. I'm still intrigued by the idea if it wouldn't cost more than a 2nd round pick. I think he has two years left on his deal, so he wouldn't cause luxury tax problems since his contract would be up before KAT's new max deal takes effect. You can't build a team around him anymore (as if you ever could), but he would enhance our inside presence.
You brought up Howard, but I was thinking going after John Henson instead. The Bucks are at 110 million in salary in 2018 with the Freaks contract kicking in. Would trading them Pek, and our 1st (top7) for Henson and there 17th and 47th be something of interest? I like his contract structure a lot and his athleticism and length.
Also, with Portland over spending, (135million in 17-18) I would reach out and see if we can get Mo Harkless or Aminu. They have a funky roster going on plus now 3 picks in the first round. Could be a fire sale and perhaps them getting a better pick they would trade 26 as a package.

That's certainly a team with some guys they probably would be willing to dump to avoid having to pay Lux tax. Will there be teams looking to take a Meyers Leonard or Ed Davis? Those guys didn't play much and it looks like Nurkic and vonleh are the bigs ahead of Jose guys plus like you said they have draft picks. I'd much rather have Aminu or Harkless but so would some other teams I would think. Those guys seem to be in the mold of combo forwards a lot of teams would have interest in in the new NBA. The big mistake the Blazers made was that Turner deal. It will be interesting to see what they do. Maybe they even try and use some of their assets to make a move for another really good player.

I'd be dead set against Dwight Howard. He's a flake that left his last two teams on not the greatest of terms and it appears the same thing will happen in Atlanta. He'd be anathema to the type of culture we're trying to build. And while he certainly would give us some interior size and muscle, the reality is he'd end up sitting a great deal of the time as teams go small and hunt 3's.
This team needs a bunch of 6'3 to 6'9 guys that can switch, contest shots, and move their feet.

I think Atlanta needs Howard a lot more than we do. I'm not sure the answer for them (agree with Q he is flaky etc) is dealing away the only guy on the roster capable of anchoring a defense and being a pretty good center when matched against those types. He put up over 13/12 in under 30mpg. Thats probably worth 20million these days.

This makes sense.
I think of the Celtics with Horford. Is Al Horford worth that max deal? Maybe... probably not... in a vacuum.
But considering guys like Mozgov, Mahimi and Biyombo are making $16M - $19M give or take... for far far less... and Boston had the room... it wasn't a bad signing at all.
