I made a similar chart for the guards. Check it out.

I'm busy watching the Spurs WHUP the Warriors to start this game, but there are a few things in here that stand out to me.

Ball's strengths really stand out. Crazy high FG%, second highest assist rate, and very good at avoiding fouls, unfortunately all of that is basically negated by having a crazy dad.

Sindarius Thornwell really stands out. He was a senior, but the guy was a great scorer (best on the list, got to the line a lot (best by far), best offensive rebounder, and best rebounder on this list. Second best in FT%, second in steals, and even third in blocks for what it's worth. No real weaknesses either. Wow, I want to research this guy some more.

Here's the forwards/bigs chart again.

Wow, looking through this, while the very top players projected in the draft seem to be guards, this draft definitely seems to have a lot of pretty solid or promising looking bigs. Again, download, use excel, and sort by stat if you want to do some research on your own.

A couple other thoughts having looked at this larger list.

First, Jeanne looks like he could actually be legit. Dude looks skinny as a scarecrow, but his block rate (5.7) really stands out (for perspective, second is 4, third is 3.5, then 3.2 and the rest are all around 2 or less). He's also second in rebounding, 6th in steals(!?), and pretty good at not turning the ball over (2nd out of 24). Tough to tell with those stats abroad, but his combine performance seemed to back this up. He might go pretty high for somebody hoping to get the next Gobert.

Next, Swanigan looks pretty good with a really interesting skill set. He's actually right behind Josh Jackson in assists (2nd overall with 3.7), he's pretty easily 1st in rebounds with 15.2, his 3 point shooting looks legit at 44% although he only shot 3 per game while some guys hoisted 4, 5, or 6. He also gets to the line at a pretty high rate (4th), and makes them at 78% which is good for a big. He really turns the ball over though, and won't help out a ton with steals and blocks, which is really what we need. He could be an interesting player for somebody if he keeps his weight in check. Weird to have a guy so great at rebounding and also good at 3 point shooting and getting assists.

A couple other guys in this list I know next to nothing about, but some things pop out. Play around with this chart and let us know what you find.

Thanks for your work on this Drew.

I did read a blurb about Swanigan that said he should probably go back to school based on his performance at the combine. Just one person's opinion I guess, but if there's a chance you can fall out of the first round I'd like to see you keep your collegiate eligibility.

In fact, i bet he's a can't miss rotational guy. He also seems to be a Thibs kind of player. You don't take him at 6 or 7, but he would be a nice prize in the middle of the first round.

Bell definitely comes off as "Thibs guy" - someone he could very well target in a trade down or if we somehow make some other move to get a later pick. We need an NBA version of Jordan Bell (and perhaps he can translate things to the next level) to compliment the show horses we have on offense. A guy that is just all over the freakin' place getting deflections, finishing plays, and hustling his ass off.

Good stuff Drew.

Thornwell seems like another "Thibs guy". Yes, he's a scorer, but look at the other "do shit" stats. Also, we think Thibs is a bit overbearing on the sidelines. Guess who Thornwell played for? Crazy Frank Martin. Now that dude will accept nothing less than 110% total commitment to defense.

Bell and Thornwell would be very solid end-of-the bench additions that with multiple years of college experience and some D-League time could be ready to contribute sooner rather than later.

I think the question with Swanigan is whether he can guard in space in today's NBA. But it's hard to ignore what he did at Purdue. I'm a little surprised he's slid as much as he has.

I think a big reason is when he played against to end athletes like against Kansas he really struggled and struggled in the combine last year also

They talked about Thornwell's defense when I was watching the tourney and he was matched up with the other teams best player. He was on the SEC all defensive team 2 years in a row. I'd be interested in some more difinitive metrics on that end.

Offensively the guy was terrible when it comes to efficiency before his senior year. You have to be somewhat concerned about that but I really like him.

There is also the 6 game suspension he had this season.

Ultimately he is a guy I would love to get as a 2nd rounder for all the reasons everyone has mentioned.

He has to continue to work on his body. He used to be 270 lbs and has to keep working to be strong and lean as he can reasonably be. Can he be a Zach Randolph type? Some of his turnovers from what I saw was him trying to do too much when he drove to the basket. He was pretty good about passing out of double teams but he had turnovers out of those situations but...was that always on him or were his perimeter guys not gettin g it done? I've watched teams make Aldridge look silly in the playoffs and he is a pretty good player and even if Leonard is out still it's the Spurs. It makes me feel like Towns will be a devastating passer once it all comes together and other guys have figured it out as well as Towns developing in that area. Anyway, I think Swanigan is at worst a scorer rebounder off the bench and honestly going back to school probably won't help his stock or his development. He may as well come out make some money and start playing at a higher level. He has dominated enough in college it's time for him to see what he can do elsewhere. Worst case scenario he makes a nice money playing in Europe and will probably earn his way to the NBA at some point. With rosters expanding he would have to really suck not to get one of those split contract deals.
