I'll say this for Lance he seems to produce in the playoffs. It he has gotten the luxury of being a high usage player and that may not continue I had started watching the game last night a little while before watching the were asking him guard Kevin Love and I was thinking? "What are they doing? Lance is tough but he can't guard Love" I wasn't watching the whole game so maybe what they were doing made more sense in the flow of the game but...it didn't make much sense to me.
Guys like Stephenson are guarding 4s because Paul George made it very clear he wasn't going to guard them... even if it was what was best for the team. Even when the top two PFs were out... nope. "Aint doing it." Instead the Pacers had to play guys like CJ Miles there. Or Stephenson.
Just read this... it sums up the situation -- and George's hypocrisy and lack of self awareness -- pretty damn well.
He's not the first player to do that. Melo and Lebron both refuse to play small ball 4 even though that is statistically where they would be best utilized and they're much more capable physically to handle the position than George.

I was going to mention Carmelo as the worst case example of NOT doing it. And James as one who took the challenge, at least at crucial times.
There are numerous examples of James playing the 4... including as a key driver in championship runs.

I don't recall James really playing the 4 unless the other team went small and gave him basically a 3 to guard. Battier was defending the 4's when James was in Miami. That's doesn't really count in my book.

Given the fact LeBron has been to a gazillion consecutive Finals, I just might give him a teeny weeny benefit of the doubt here. George and 'Melo.....no good excuses.

Heck, James was basically playing the 5 for spells back in the 2012 ECF vs. Garnett and the Celtics.
And him moving to the 4 for long spells is well documented as a big reason for multiple titles... he tends to play there more in the playoffs.
Just read the first graph in this piece... http://www.cleveland.com/cavs/index.ssf/2016/03/lebron_james_is_embracing_play.html
That being said... James is an anomaly. He's position-less... that's essentially his legacy.
