What Happens If Wolves Finish in Bottom 5

Post by Lipoli390 »

The Wolves are currently tied for the 3rd worst record in the League. And that's without any major injuries to any of our core guys except a few games missed by Ricky.

So I think it's clear the Wolves will end up in the lottery and I wouldn't expect any changes at the top if we finish somewhere in the range of 10th to 14th worst record. But what if we finish in the bottom 5? Hard to imagine Glen eating the huge contract he gave Thibs in his dual role as President and Head Coach. However, I find it hard to accept moving forward with Thibs after a bottom 5 finish with a team that Thibs himself referred to as the best young roster in the NBA and given the strong finish this team had last season under Mitchell. So what do you think Glen will do, if anything, in the event of a bottom 5 finish?

Thibs isn't going anywhere no matter what happens on the court this year. Glen is all in on this management team. He will sell before he starts over again.

I think if that happens Theydon will look aggressively at moving LaVine, Ricky and the lottery pick. Maybe for Butler (again?) Gorgui would probably be in play and pretty much anyone but Wiggins, Towns and Dunn.

Probably nothing although I've entertained the possibility that Thibs fires himself (or Glen does) as coach and Thibs retains the GM spot and brings in someone like Van Gundy. I actual like that scenario (Van Gundy was higher on my list than Thibs), although I don't like the losing part that might bring about that change.

They rebrand the team, as their big move will be bringing new colors and a new jersey.

Ricky's gone whether they win a championship or not, let alone lose a lot or not.

They attempt to trade the pick for a vet to avoid having to pick a PG (and thus, immediately regretting drafting Dunn). Bazz is free to go anywhere unmatched. Vets will continue to spurn this team though we'll be wondering why Thibs is looking to offer Rose a huge contract.

But hey! They'll probably beat the Clippers in LA at some point in the season. Unbridled optimism once again. Rinse. repeat.

If the wolves can draft 4 different pgs in the same draft and miss on all of them then there's no reason they can't draft one in back to back years.

when the Wolves drafted 4 different PG"s in one draft did we not think that was rather clueless on Kahn's part?

I think it would be pretty clueless to draft a guy that supposedly teams were offering Jimmy Butler and Nerlens Noel for only to effectively replace him the following year.

I'm just saying it shouldnt be thrown out completely cuz this coming draft has some really good pgs in it.
You do know that what we think on here has no bearing on what takes place within the Wolves org. You know that right?

Well, as coach, GM, President, etc., shouldn't Thibodeau and Layden know this in advance? If you and I can figure that out, so should they, especially if this is now just another developmental year.

I'm probably still alone on this island, but I'd be aggressive in pursuing DeMarcus Cousins this off-season. It's not surprising to see that Towns is more comfortable playing the power forward position early in his career. That's where he has a real physical advantage at this point.

Cousins would give us a big presence in the paint on both ends of the floor. I do believe Thibs is a coach that he respects and would grind hard for. The drawback is that he too isn't a proven winner, though I feel like he's in a much worse situation than the much-maligned Kevin Love was even in.
