2017-2018 College Basketball thread

Post by Monster »

Hopefully this year can be more following the sport instead of the in depth scouting we have been doing the last decade plus. I'm disappointed Michigan State isn't coming to town so I can see Miles Bridges play again. I am going to the Huskers home opener tonight. I almost bought a season ticket just to be able to go to the Kansas game for a reasonable cost.

Are there some players or teams you are excited about seeing this season?

Not really Monster. I just don't get into college ball much until conference play really kicks into gear in January.

I'm a huge Gopher basketball fan, monster, and maybe there are some others here who may want to comment on games. They are ranked 15th going into the season, but struggled a little to win their opener last night. I have my eyes on their bruising PF Jordan Murphy who put up 35 and 15 up last night and is a strong candidate for the Malone award (best college PF).

Gophers are definitely one of the games I am gonna be sure to make it to on the Huskers schedule. The Huskers are in a tight game tonight against Eastern Illinois. Isaiah Roby a wing player is on a triple double watch after 5 blocks in the first half. They have struggled putting the ball in the basket including FTs.

I'm also looking forward to seeing Duke as they have a collection of talent as usual including Gary Trent Jr.

Im also a huge Gopher fan, and yes they struggled in there opener but I am not that worried just because USC UPSTATE hit some damn tough 3s.

In general I think the Gophers should compete for the B10 this year with MSU obviously being the favorite. They return 4.5 starters (Mcbryer started half the year last year). Including 1st all B10 guard in Mason, B10 Defensive player of the year Lynch and 3rd team B10 player Murphy. They should dominate the boards every game and if Lynch can keep out of foul trouble they are going to be so hard to beat.

Coffey has a legit chance at being a NBA player, they added 2 freshman in Washington (aka Jelly Fam) who is highly touted and will be talked about a ton just because of his personality and brings the NYC street ball style to the gophers but he is a great passer, the only problem I could see with him he likes to take some bad shots (based on the scrimmages and opener) but he is super talented. Also added a sharp shooter in Harris what is there biggest weakness 3pt shooting.

The only problem I could see is an injury to Lynch if Lynch goes down the season could be in jeopardy because they don't have big depth at the Center position, they just have Konote (sr) but he can't play more than 10 minutes a game to be successful.

Isaiah Roby finished with a stat stuffing 13 points 11 rebounds and 6 blocks in 26 minutes off the bench. I'll pay a few bucks just to see him play. I liked what I saw out of him as a freshman last year.

It will be interesting how a couple top programs Indiana and Ohio State do with new coaches. It's a pretty good basketball conference.

Ya it is a good conference, some of the staples of the conference from previous years are gone now in Trimble (maryland), Hayes (wisc), Swanigan (Purdue), Walton (Mich), Lumpkin (Jim P step-son, NW), Blackmon (Ind).

Conference lost a lot of players that have made big impacts the last couple of years.

Who do you think are player of the year canidates in the B10? Bridges has to be the favorite but Happ I feel like will take it home

I just started watching Duke Michigan State game and my first impressions are Bridges looks like he may be a little leaner and Ward is for sure but he is still a load...in a good way.

Bridges is hitting 3's but mixed when he drives.

The Duval the freshman PG from Duke is looking like a pretty good player.

Also that Grayson Allen kid had 37.
