Wolves Can Now Trade Jeff Teague

Post by Lipoli390 »

December 15 is the first day that free agent acquisitions this past summer can be traded. So just for fun, I thought I'd raise the question. Should the Wolves shop Jeff Teague and, if so, for whom?

Nah, Thibs isn't going to do it. And while I like Tyus, I'm still not sure how he does in a full-time starting role. And worse, we would suddenly have zero PG depth, unless everyone wants to get an eye full of Aaron Brooks every night.

I just wish Teague brought a bit more defensive intensity to start games. He seems to play pretty laid back to start - even sloppily at times - then tends to turn it up a notch in the 3rd quarter. I'd be fine with that if he were playing 36+ minutes per night and carrying a much bigger load, but he's got a ton of help now and a good backup. I'd like to see him defend better.

No, Tibs needs to find a way to utilize his skills. He's still has been perplexing, he's been very frustrating. I wish they'd let him penetrate and irises his skills more. Quite frankly I'd rather the ball be in his hands verses iso Butler ball to finish games, atleast occasionally. He looks lost and his confidence is low. Tibs needs to find a way to build it up, obviously that falls on Tibs as well.

If we found a deal that makes sense I'm all for it but that's not likely. He's a better player then he's shown I believe.

Beverley would have been the ideal target. He's a better fit for us and teague is a better fit for the clippers.

I would offer Teague and Wiggins to Portland for Lillard, but that's probably not enough on our end nor is it the smartest deal to make during the regular season while we're thin on the wing as it is.

I think Teague has been part of the solution thus far and I wouldn't trade him unless the deal 100%, without a doubt, makes the Wolves better.

Yeah, that would kill us on the wing. And there are only so many shots to go around. I guess we could get away with a lot of Tyus/Lillard minutes since Lillard has enough size to guard some 2's - especially bench 2's.

In theory when healthy yes. Unfortunately he can't seem to stay healthy and this season is already over for him. Teague's ability to stay on the floor during his career is pretty nice. If Towns ever figures out how to play pick and roll (had some better moments lately) Teague's value make a nice jump with this team.

Teague is not the issue with this team but I seem to find parallels with those that championed for Ricky and those that always pick his game apart always seem unhappy with the team regardless of wins and losses.

Teague is not the reason the Wolves are underachieving in my view. So you're right that Teague is not the issue. But his contract is. He doesn't add value commensurate with his salary. I'm not sure what we could get for Teague. I think we'd have a hard time getting value in return. That's not because he's a bad player. Actually, he's a good player and he played well tonight. It's because of his contract as measured against what he contributes. On the other hand, he is one of a handful of players who might bring a decent return so it might be worth shopping him.

My view is that we shouldn't trade any of our rotation players this season, but should wait until after the season, evaluate where we're at and then consider doing deals. But if we're going to consider trades before the Feb. deadline, then Teague is one of a very short list of Wolves players (other than KAT and Jimmy Butler) who could potentially bring good value in return. Wiggins' contract extension has a poison pill component that makes it almost impossible to trade him before next June. Belly's foot is an issue that nullifies most of any trade value he might have otherwise had. There's no way Thibs would trade Taj or Butler and he shouldn't trade KAT. That leaves Gorgui and Teague as good players who might garner a good return. But again, since I consider Thibs the main problem, I don't see the point is trading any good players while Thibs is still in charge.
