The Wolves don't even have a second sure-thing All Star right now. Heck, one of the "Big 3" probably wouldn't even start for most playoff teams. I get the patience approach and I'm not advocating making a move to make the playoffs at 42 - 40 and then drop back again.

But it's extremely unlikely all three of the Big 3 evolve to the reach their ceilings AND want to stay here long-term AND gel together on the court.

I guess it all comes down to whether people think we have our Big 3 of All Star/NBA players. Personally... I think the Wolves have one great player. One probable All Star. And one longshot All Star caliber player.

I'd offer up Wiggins for Butler.

Not a huge fan of comparing teams built on Hall of Famers with what we have. I think it's an indictment on Towns/Wiggins/Lavine that they need even more young talent to help them. By the time that young talent does help them you have to deal away guys anyway because good young pieces get paid in this league and we can only pay so many at once. So then you just end up re-tooling around your top 2-3 anyway. I think Towns/Wiggins/Zach can be legitimate if we start building a winning culture now. If we don't do that I seriously question if we are gonna make it out with all 3 and be contenders when all is said and done.

I could understand adding more young talent if we had 1 or 2 of Towns/Wiggins/Lavine, but we have all 3 and you can only keep so many good young players on your team. Pair them up with vets, maybe even all-stars and start winning now and then re-tool around them as necessary. Trying to build a team around 4-5-6-7 good young players just doesn't happen but once when a team like the Warriors get the perfect combo of cap jump, contracts under the old CBA and Curry being on a discount because of injury risk. We'll just end up drafting and developing players for other teams while we re-tool around 2-3 guys.

We've been patient. We have a team that has half the guys who play under 25 years old. I'd say that's enough young talent to move forward with trying to build a winning culture now, otherwise you fall right back into the trap of another lottery pick will fix everything and it won't.

Khans, just stop it. That's at least the second time I agree with you today. I've met my "Khans agreement quota". Can we go back to bickering about Rubio? Naaaaah, let's not.

I always like the example of the baby Bulls and how they made all those moves including trading some guys for vets and...it turned out their roster had some really nice player on it if they had held onto them. I'm staying patient. Being patient doesn't mean you don't add any vet guys to help move things along. The Wolves young 3 are still 22. That's still freaking young. Ave makes a good point about how good/great a couple of those guys are but adding a Butler...he is good but it's not like he is a generational player either.

The Wolves may have lucked out when it comes to FA as well. The cap is less than expected and there does look to be a likely crunch of what some guys may get not only because of the cap dropping but some of what has happened already with movement around the league. I'll admit here it's looking like I was wrong about the massive spending some teams will do although there will still be plenty of mistakes teams will make. It's a good thing to be wrong about. So being patient means the Wolves may be able to get some worthwhile players at some much more appealing numbers than expected and that could include the polarizing* Bazz. I think Thibs and Layden have been patient calculating and pretty smart and it may pay off in a number of ways this offseason. I'm getting a bit more excited...get ready for those opTIMistic posts about how awesome the bench will be!!! Yessss!!!! Lol

* If the polarizing police want to confirm one way or another if Bazz is a polerizing player that would be great. :)

As a card carrying member of the Polarizing Police, I declare Bazz NOT polarizing. He's a solid energy scorer off the bench, but doesn't help the total team out because he can't space the floor or make plays for others. He is totally dependent on others setting him up. Brooklyn might throw some money at him since they are kinda desperate.

This draft is pretty damn exciting given the multitude of scenarios that can play out for the Wolves.

And, yes, you can bet I will be opDOUGistic no matter what happens! :)
