The Lowry and Milsap talk is fun, and maybe something will happen there...

But what about wings?!? Sure, we can work on upgrading other positions, but we have ZERO backup wings! That has to be a top priority, and I would expect to hear something pretty quick about the Wolves signing a player to be their "6th man".

BloopOracle wrote:Funny you should mention that monster, as Brian Windhorst was on Sirius this morning saying that Lowry is looking at a team friendly deal for around 25 million so he can sign with the contender of his choice. He also confirmed that the Wolves were after him and there are reports that Butler is aggressively wooing him. If the Wolves actually get a high class free agent to sign in Minnesota AND take a freakin discount I don't think I will even know what to with myself for the next few days lol

I wouldn't be shocked if it happened. If Lowry returned to the Raptors he is either they best player or in a tie for top player with Derozen. Their next best player? Ibaka I guess? If he came to the Wolves he would be maybe tied with Butler but he would also have Towns who could end up better than both AND have Wiggins as the 4th best player. are the Spurs an option? Do the Clipper have cap space and interest in him at that number? Butler said today that he is talking to FAs better than him about coming here. I'm not all in on Lowry but I can see the fit here espcially for 25 million per. His volume 3 point shooting would be fantastic and if he would be added we would be a legit contender talent level team. We will see but we need to be prepared to be making moves contender type teams make than what the rest of the league does.

My prediction.

Min trades rubio and Aldrich (~18 mil)
Utah trades Hood and Diaw (who gets waived)(~1.5 mil)

Hood is coming off a down year and is going to get paid next year. They also save money because the 18 mil of Aldrich and rubio combined is still less than any quality pg they can bring in.

Wolves after that trade would have ~34.5 mil to spend.

Wolves sign Lowry 3 years for 75 mil (9.5 mil remaining)

Sign McLemore for a 2 year 11 mill a year (4 mil left).

Dunleavy, rush, Casspi, Sergio Rodriguez signed for vet min.

PG: Lowry/Rodriguez/Tyus
SG: Wiggins/McLemore/rush
SF: Butler/Hood/Dunleavy
PF: Dieng/belly/Casspi
C: Towns/dieng/Patton

Crickets for Shabazz at this point. I think he might be a guy we can get back cheap.

Paul Garcia: The Timberwolves have tendered a Qualifying Offer to Shabazz Muhammad making him a Restricted free agent (H/T Real GM). 3 days ago - via Twitter PaulGarciaNBA

Article from 2 weeks ago is only other than the tender I have seen.

Mad dog sports had an interview this morning with an NBA insider (didn't catch the name) who thinks there is real steam around Rubio going to Utah to fit into their $16M cap space and then Lowry signing here. So we in essence would have a big 4. How long would it take for us to become a threat to the champs?

1 year to learn how to play together and add another key bench piece with the MLE next summer.

That Rubio trade would have to happen by midnight. Better be damn sure a starting point guard is coming soon after.

I believe there is steam to this. Assuming this happens, it's a big if still. Wouldn't it make sense to move Gorgui, to me it doesn't make sense to pay him 15 mil a year.

I agree. I think Gorgui would be better served as a starting 5. Would love to have him as a rotational big off the bench, but not for that price.
