Good point on keeping the trade exceptions. The Nets are a trade option also if we just wanna dump salary. They obviously don't wanna take back long, bad contracts which Ricky or Gorgui arn't. They prolly have some interest in being competitive since they don't keep their pick(s) for the next few years.

I wonder if they'd be willing to sign and trade for Bazz and we get back Lin. They have Russell now to run the point. Bazz is another young asset they could add to that team. We'd get the backup combo guard we need. Could be a good match.

Lip - I think that 24 mil of cap room is a little high. That's the number I came up with, and then noticed that Kevin Martin's stretch deal counts for 1.3 mil this year. So the cap room is a bit under 23 mil...

One other thing for khansie. Since we are sufficiently under the cap such that our salary plus cap holds and exceptions do not reach the minimum salary cap, we lose ALL our exceptions. So we do not have the MLE to use. What we do get is the Room MLE, which is worth about 3 mil.

After the Room MLE is used up, all we can give out are Vet Minimum deals...

(this comes directly from the cbafaq.com, questions 25 and 26)

Moving Ricky doesn't really help much because we have to spend to replace him, and I think he is a great fit with three scorers in the starting lineup, and he is a very good defender as well.

Not sure why you trade for a star with two years left and then use your single draft pick on a developmental guy?

This team does not have an offensive problem. It is all defense, and unless they can get G to step out of the paint on the PnR, teams will continue to exploit it. Jimmy Butler isn't going to help that. I would think a defensive guru of a coach would have been able to see that.

When I look two seasons ahead, we have six players making 90 mil with Wiggins penciled in at 25/yr, and KAT, Butler due for big raises the following year. I don't see how we can spend much this off season.

You're puzzled by Thibs moves and how we have a defense problem not offensive, yet we just traded for besides Kawai (and it's close) the best wing defender in the NBA who's just entering his prime? Gorgui isn't that hard of a contract to move and he isn't that bad on defense either. wtf is this post?

SJM has been a Gorgui critic for years now - basically the only thing he posts about anymore. Otherwise, we hardly hear from him much anymore. I get worried if Gorgui gets traded that SJM may never come back!

SJM - if you are out there - I'm one of Rubio's biggest fans and would love to see how he does with this group, but the reality is that Wiggins and Butler are not the ideal pairing from a floor spacing perspective. That means we need to find other guys to help create that space and that might include PG.

I think Thibs will work parallel paths this summer. On the one hand he'll see what the trade market is for Rubio (which they've been feeling out for a year now, so he probably has a good idea) AND he's going to see what the market is for PGs like Mills, Holiday, Teague, and Hill. If....and it's a big if...he can find two deals that he can execute pretty much in concert with each other while still preserving enough cap space to nab another solid piece on the wing or PF, we could see Rubio gone by the end of the summer.

I personally think it's going to be really hard to pull off and Rubio ends up staying for now. But between the non-stop rumors and Thibs never definitively stating that Rubio is "his guy", we shouldn't be surprised at all to see him go.

Maybe ATL or TOR would be willing to sign and trade for Dieng so we could keep our exceptions to bring in a couple depth guys. We have lots of options so we'll see what we end up with.

I suspect Thibs will explore every possibility to improve the team. But it's highly unlikely he moves Gorgui. Remember that Thibs started the season praising Gorgui as the guy who does the things that don't show up in the box score and he didn't hesitate to give him the contact some are complaining about. Then he told folks internally in the organization that he considered Gorgui the most improved player on the team. So he starts out loving Gorgui and then later notes that Gorgui improved more than anyone else on the roster. That's not someone likely to be dealt. Truth is, Gorgui is more than a backup if KAT becomes a complete player. I can see Ricky being dealt, but even that seems unlikely to me as well.

There are reports out there that the wolves will go hard after Lowry.

I like the trade but if the rumors are true we are really pushing chips to the middle

I'm confident they will attempt to move both, just not sure they will be able to. They need to go all-in after they trade. Hopefully they can get the contracts short, 3-4 years. Preferably 3.

If true, I am sure they would pursue it as a sign-and-trade for Rubio. But I am skeptical there is much truth to the rumor...

Listening to various radio spots Layden and Thibs have praised Rubio plenty. I think they both like him and value him as a player. I think they really valued a Lavine and Dunn as well but they were willing to move on from those guys to get Butler. It makes sense to check in and see if you can get a likely significant improvement on a guy like Rubio. It maybe makes even more sense now that there are fewer landing spots for top PGs and so some guys might come at a much more reasonable price. Again finding out what the market is for those top guys helps them know what the market will be for Rubio if they do decide to move him.

I don't think they will end up with another top end all star level player but if they could somehow pull that off...well that would be a hell of an offseason. We will see.
