Bloop -- We don't have the cap space to afford Millsap AND multiple three-point shooters. I don't even think we have the cap room to pay Millsap.

We have 20 million is what I'm hearing and ATL is engaging teams in sign and trade scenarios I think we could potentially get him and for less than expected as Butler's presense wipes out the Tundra tax in my opinion.

Re: 2017 Offseason Part 2
I agree with the idea of we can keep Bazz cheap we should do it. That seems more possible every couple weeks and the lower cap is the latest. Sure he doesn't fit perfectly but what if he does start hitting 3's? The reality is the Wolves right now have 2 wings on their entire roster. They need wings. Bazz is a young wing and he has shown some ability. I'm totally fine if we get guys that fit better and I kinda don't expect him back but I still believe the guy can become something more useful that he has been up to this point.
I think Rush fits this team pretty well. He would play off either Wiggins or Butler as a low usage guy that just shoots 3's. His defense is more like average but he seems to understand pretty well what to do and he can come over and block a shot like a combo forward at times to wow you. He probably would have more interest in sticking around now that Butler is here. I'm guessing there was a sense he wasn't really all that excited about coming back for cheap to a team that was maybe a 6th seed. Butler makes this team much more legit. Rush is gonna he cheap has been here a year and has some game in smaller doses.
If Thibs and Layden can get a volume 3 point shooting backup PG/combo guard that would help a lot with shooting.
I don't think we have to chase a Redick type although if we got him for a decent price Inwould be happy but that seems unlikely. I don't see him signing to be a 6th man. Get a CJ miles or something like that and get a guy like Tolliver to be that mobile PF that can hit 3's. Mirotic would be plenty interesting I wonder what kind of money he would cost.
Onn he Dunc'd on podcast they mentioned how a couple years ago teams quickly signed some solid to good players to what ended up being good contracts because they signed those not too FAs with pretty attractive deals right away and the players took them. I think with Butler here it really gives you the capability to find solid players that know their game and you know what you get (and what you won't) and these guys kinda fill in. The Wolves have plenty of roster spots and they do have some actual opportunity too as all but the center position backup spots are somewhat open. They could sign 3 vet guys and then do a couple younger guys to take flyers on.
There is also the option of taking on a guy that someone else doesn't want to pay. That is tricky partly because you don't know for sure when those guys will be available because some teams won't make a move till they know they have their guy. I think overall the Wolves are in a better spot for FA than before the trade no question and it one to the best things short term about the trade...besides obviously adding Butler. :)

Re: 2017 Offseason Part 2
I think Millsap is a candidate who thinks he's getting a max and just wont. Neither will Lowry. Sacramento, Indiana and the Bulls didn't want to supermax legit stars like Cousins, PG and Butler. Why would teams be offering these guys on the wrong side of 30 around 30 million a year? The cap isn't that high and I don't expect teams to generate that space for those caliber of players. They banked on everyone have big cap space available and very few will actually be able to meet their demands. With the cap being even 2 million lower than expected I just don't see nearly the spending spree we saw last year. We'll see how much they want to win vs how much they want to get paid.

Also, we don't get to 20+ million in cap space without pulling Bazz's RFA status. He accounts for a 7.6 million dollar cap hold. So if you want to keep Bazz that reduces our starting point for anyone else down to around 13 million and if you keep Rush, Casspi and Patton that becomes a little more than 5 million left of just cap space. So if you want to sign people that highly likely means the end of Bazz here unless he takes the MLE.

I haven't check if things have changed in the new CBA, but it used to be teams under the salary cap lost both MLE and BLE. So I don't believe we have those to offer.

I think they activate once you are within the MLE range of the cap (aka giving a guy the MLE puts you over the cap). I don't think we lose it all together this summer if we choose to open the cap space. We have it right now because we only have about a million in cap space if we keep all the cap holds and they don't sign elsewhere.
Re: 2017 Offseason Part 2
I don't think we need to sign guys specifically for defense. I hear people saying we need more rim protection but we are the only team in the league to start two centers. What else can we do?? By this boards omission we have a top level defensive PG, Butler is a great two way player. Bottom line is our defensive improvement is dependent on Wig and Kat showing effort which will equal improvement. Kat was a matador defending the PnR, same with G. I think the team is better off starting Belly, assuming he is healthy. I think they should look to deal both Gorgi and Rubio to free up salary and see what they can get back that fits the team better. They are both bad fits with this core. Dunc'd on talked openly about the need for us to find a better PG. JVC said our point guard play was below average last year.

Re: 2017 Offseason Part 2
I really like Joe Ingles. Good defender, plays the 2, 3 and 4, good, willing passer who moves the ball well, happy to play off the ball but can also handle it and create for others, improving 3 point shooter with a great 3 point % year last year (36%, 39%, 44% in his 3 years). His overall stats don't blow anybody away, but every time I watched that team last year I thought, man, this guy just makes his team better (the trouble is, Utah will obviously know that).
He's an RFA. Is there any chance we could use the Gordon Hayward situation to our advantage here? If we offer Ingles a deal right away before Hayward can sign with Utah, could that force Utah to consider passing on matching Ingles to keep the cap space for Hayward?
Look what this guy did just on the defensive end in the first round against the Clippers last year and remember he's also a great 3 point shooter and a good passer. Love the effort and intensity.

Re: 2017 Offseason Part 2
Say goodbye to Hill and Bazz. That leaves you with around $22 million in space. As others have mentioned, we won't be able to get Tier 1 FAs as we have quite a few roster spots to fill.
Shooting is this team's #1 need. Here's what I would do:
- Bring back Casspi. He'll come somewhat cheap and I think Thibs really likes him. Decent spot up shooter.
- Sign one of CJ Miles, Arron Afflalo, or Jodie Meeks. All three are snipers from deep. Miles would likely cost the most. Afflalo was just cut by the Kings. He would bring defensive toughness along with his shooting. Meek has had injury issues.
- Sign one of Patrick Patterson or Anthony Tolliver. There is really no difference in their games. Both shoot well from deep. We all know how smart AT is and how great his work ethic is. Seems like a Thibs guy. However, he is around 3 years older, which would lower his price tag.
- Sign a 3rd point guard. I don't care if it's someone like Jarrett Jack or Langston Galloway. Just get someone.
Rubio-Tyus-FA
Wiggins-Miles-Clarke
Butler-Casspi-Beachum
Dieng-Patterson-Bjelica
Towns-Aldrich-Patton
I think this is very realistic and doable.
