Tyus Jones should start...

Post by DNatagal »

Now that I have your attention...

Tyus is a quintessential winner. The kid just wins. Is he super athletic like Russell Westbrook? Nope, not even close. Has Thib's won with guards like Tyus in the past? Kind of?
Dunn is getting better but reminds me of Lavine when he was forced into the PG role, out of control with sloppy handles. I think Dunn could really benefit from some D-league time. Let him run wild and get minutes.
Demote Ricky. Institute the Pek and Roll with Aldrich or Belly. Or just trade him. If the offense doesn't need Rubio, it doesn't help the team to have him on the floor. The season is lost and it is time to move on....and I want Ricky to be here, but sometimes changes need to be made.

Hell...I would rather see Lavine at PG, Wiggins at SG, Belly at 3, Dieng and Kat. That's a pretty good starting 5. Wiggins has been bringing the ball up the court so it's not like a traditional PG is needed.

2nd unit Tyus/Dunn (if no D-league), Bazz, Aldrich and whichever starter depending on matchups.

It's a(nother) lost season, so why not? I definitely endorse the idea of Kris to D League to see if he can figure out how to play PG at the pro level and I also like Belly at 3 and Wig at 2, but I'm not sure I'm ready for Tyus to start...let's give him some regular minutes backing up Ricky before throwing him to the wo....um, into the fire.

But while I endorse these ideas, I haven't seen even the slightest hint of flexibility from Thibs, so I don't think these moves will happen.

The season isn't over.

I'm not against the idea of Tyus starting. It makes some sense. On the other hand as I have said in the Dunn thread he is starting to look better. X amount of games from now we might be talking about him starting. In addition to all this I think Rubio has been playing somewhat better lately.

I see the benefit of Thibs sticking with his starters and not making drastic changes. its one way of doing things. Is it the right one? IDK. all I am going to say is that I have heard so many fans over the years complaining about how vet coaches have shuttled players in and out of the starting lineup and rotation ruining them etc etc. Thibs has tried a few things though later in games and made some adjustments to his rotations like having Lavine play more with the bench guys so I don't think he is adverse to making changes. I also don't think anyone has really played well enough to force his hand yet either.

Unless we think Tyus Jones is the long-term answer as a starter... meh.

The Wolves are nearing development stage. Again.

Rubio will be moved for dimes on the dollar and Dunn/Jones "development" can begin in earnest. Then, we can start talking about next year's loaded draft. And start reading the stories about a "new focus" and players committed to "not believing the hype" and "make or break seasons" and get excited all over again.

A winning streak would be needed....and since the Wolves haven't won 4 in a row since 2012 (thanks Abe), I think it is safe to say the season is damn near over now. The Wolves still play in the Western Conference and did not play well during the easiest part of their schedule. The idea that they are going all "insert movie trope about unlikely sports team running the table all the way to the big game here" is not realistic at this point. I would love it if it did...but the chances are slim to say the least.

Why not, in the words of Clark Griswold, "we're at the threshold of hell, how could things possibly get any worse?"

Yeah, I agree we are getting at the point of no return, but I'm torn between a "stay-the-course, you dug this hole, get yourself out of it!" path whereby we pretty much keep the rotations in tact and hope these guys figure things out at some point and a "blow it up" path where we may be try a couple of somewhat drastic things, as suggested here.

One thing I am certain of.....I want nothing to do with another lottery pick. My God, haven't we exceeded the quota allowed? 6 of our 9 rotation players are lottery picks, two of whom are consecutive #1 picks.....and we still are tied for worst in the league! What good has it done us!? I'm tired of potty training these young guys for two or three years and then after they show some promise, they end up pissing all over the place again!

We need to use this year's lottery pick to land a big fish that actually knows how to play and defend.
