I would give up virtually anything to land Kawhi Leonard, circa 2012 - 2017.
But something is amiss right now. Hidden in all the drama is that he turned down the NIKE contract at the last second. Remember, the stars make more money off the court than on it. Add it up and he might be seeking a more prominent destination to grow his brand a bit. "Hey NIKE, I'm in NY now, let's reopen contract talks."
Sure, it runs counter to what we've known about the guy in his career so far... But as this drama unfolds... and his free agency looms next summer... a small market team trading the farm for him could be dicey.
