It looks like Kekgeek1, Shumway, LST, or Khans will win the annual prediction contest. Nice job to anyone that got this within a game or two.

After a weak start, the Western Conference once again made mincemeat of the Eastern Conference and here we are staring at a 46-win squad that have, at best, a 50/50 chance of getting to 47 wins and squeaking into the playoffs. We'd be the 6th seed in the East....

Congrats to Khans for accurately predicting the number of wins this year! Impressive in that he was the only one that guessed 47 wins.

(Not sure he did so well on his Utah prediction...tee hee).

Finally! A year where the pessimists are wrong. Of course the pure optimists were wrong too.

I was surprised by a lot of West teams. GS not really bringing it much of the year and no Kawhi really left a lot of wins on the table. Utah and NO were the ones I for sure didn't see coming. I was most shocked I think at the end of the day that we literally got no help from anyone down the stretch. There's usually one team that falters and there just wasn't one this year. Even Denver closed out the year 7-3 in their last 10. Somehow they all played each other and we couldn't make up any ground even closing with a 3 game win streak. GS was the only team in the top 9 that closed the season below .500 in their last 10.

...but that's what makes our playoff birth, even as a lowly 8th seed, gratifying. We truly had to EARN it. We got zero help along the way.

I thought it was actually pretty common. I remember the craziness a few years ago when Phoenix missed out with 48 wins. EVERYBODY was winning games late.

I think it's in part because there are so many tanking teams late in the year.

I'm happy my prediction was eclipsed.

I did get the worst team in the league right. The Suns were a couple games worse than the teams in front of them. The 2nd half of the season they had only 6 wins with 2 of them coming against the Thunder and Nuggets.

I predicted 51 wins. Here's a list of what I consider to be our bad losses this season, only one of which was without Butler:

1. Home against Memphis a couple weeks ago (albeit without Butler)
2. @Atlanta
3. @Nets
4. @Orlando
5. @Bulls
6. @Memphis
7. @Suns
8. Home against Suns without Booker
9. Home against Wizards without Wall
10. Home against Sixers without Covington and before they were hot.
11. Home against Miami

We only needed to win 4 of those 11 games to get to my 51-win prediction. So I'm declaring a moral victory and blaming Thibs for falling short of the actual title. :)

They were saying on the Dunc'd on podcast that's Denver had the 3rd or 4th best record (can't remember which they said) ever to miss the playoffs.
