touches

teague 76.1
kat 69.3 ( 70.2)
butler 62.3
taj 49.6
wiggs 42.7 (51.3)

avg seconds per touch

teague 5.58
tyus 4.82
jimmy 4.24
jamal 4.00
wiggs 2.91 (3.35)

as a reference: westbrook 5.72 harden 6.34

pts per touch

wiggs 0.418 (4.59)
butler 0.352
jamal 0.347
kat 0.309 (3.58)
taj 0.242

paint touches

taj 7.1
kat 6.1 (8.4)
dieng 3.2
butler 2.9
wiggs 2.3 (3.2)

post ups

kat 6.5 (11)
taj 2.7
butler 2.6
wiggs 2.5 (4.1)
dieng 0.6 (1.4)

imo, kat sees enough of the ball but he just doesnt get enough shots because thibs doesnt have him in positions to score or teague isnt looking at him. kat just looks like a hand off and outlet machine for Teague and jimmy. its anal criminal that kat doesnt get the most paint touches on the team.

wiggs has struggled this year to score, but i think some of that is because he really isn't involved in the offense. Im guessing hes either taking stupid quick shots because he feels that he needs to do something or hes the bailout guy. He doesnt need more shots, but he does need more touches to feel a part of the offense.

* () denotes last year with rubio.

These have been interesting numbers to look at all season. You make some good points. Some of how these numbers bare out are because of the lack of shooting from the starters. When Towns has the ball in the post he is missing the best 3 point shooter on the floor because it's him. When Teague has the ball he is the 2nd best 3 point shooter. If Wiggins ever becomes a legit averagish 3 point threat this whole team is gonna take off. Imagine Towns being able to throw the ball to Wiggins who can jack up and hit a 3. Teague driving and probing with more space plus Wiggins to throw the ball too when the defense breaks down. Oh and if we find a more modern PF that spaces the floor instead of Gibson at some point down the line...now we are really talking.

Some worthwhile context to some of these numbers Rubio was 6th in the NBA last year with 5.75 seconds per touch.

The pts per touch is misleading (if I understand it correctly) because Wig almost always shoots the ball on his touches.

I am thrilled to death with Taj offensively and defensively. I think bigs shooting 3's is being blown way out of proportion. Capela, Pachulia, Green, Gobert, Favors, etc. don't' shoot 3's efficiently, but their offenses run just fine.

Capela and whoever plays for GS has elite shooting all around them. I agree Taj isn't the problem but the Wolves need one more shooter from somewhere and at some point Taj probably won't be here or be a starter. That could be 2-3 years from now but the idea is that maybe that's a spot we could add some shooting. It doesn't have to be from there but it's one option.
