Considering this franchises history mediocrity would be a vast improvement over like 2/3s of the seasons in team history. I know Towns Defense is less than encouraging but the guy is an amazing talent an this team isn't completely starved for talent aside tom him. Just imagine how pathetic this team would look this year if they hadn't traded for Butler. The win totals would have been in the 30's and we would have been scouting the NCAA tourney in earnest looking for the next player.

Honestly, I'd rather be bad and always have the hope of landing a superstar in the lottery than be mired in perpetual mediocrity.

While I share Big O's concern that this team is possibly on the threshold of long-term mediocrity, I still have hope that this team can still be a legitimate title contender in the next couple seasons, so long as KAT is still on the team. He is truly a franchise-type talent who is still going to get better. Yes, he's not a good defender, but neither is James Harden who (like Barkley and others before him) has shows that a championship contender can be led by a star who isn't particularly good defensively. I'll add that KAT has improved defensively this season and I expect that he'll continue improving because of his highly competitive nature.

My concerns are Thibs, Butler's ongoing health, our lack of depth, and whether Wiggins and Teague are the right complements to KAT and Butler. Also, Taj Gibson will be 33 at the start of next season in the last year of his contract. And he'll be coming off a career your for him, so I see his play declining. Unfortunately, Gorgui doesn't look like he can step in and pick up the slack as our starting PF. In any event, I don't see this team contending for a title with Thibs as our head coach.

Bad teams stay bad because no one wants to stay. Eventually you need to progress. We definitely needed to progress.

Exactly. You think Towns and Wiggins are going to want out after a couple of years of first round playoff exits? Imagine if we would have kept Lavine, Dunn, and Markannen and had another year in the lottery.

Well...why would they want to stay with a team that hasn't even won 40 games yet? If Butler would have stayed healthy this team would have been likely a 3rd seed and had a chance to make a run through the playoffs having a solid chance of winning a playoff series for the 2nd season in franchise history.

I am not saying Towns isnt going to be a star or saying we shouldn't have traded for butler. What I am saying is other contracts are bad enough that we cannot build around them in free agency at the same time we are good enough to not be in line for top prospects. And utimately need to trade these stars away (Love, Garnett)

If the Wolves can't build a legit team around the likes of Garnett or Love or Towns or whomever... over the course of multiple decades...

I think there are other options we should consider before shipping the players out of town.

After all... what has been the one constant... who has been in charge... over all of the failed regimes of the past?

KAT won't be in his prime till he signs two more contracts. By then the current "bad contracts" will be long gone. BB players usually peak around 28-29. The Wolves made a mistake as we can see now trading KG. You never trade your best asset because your other players suck. Sure, management screwed up, we all don't need to rehear history on the Joe Smiths and Troy Hudsons or Olowakandis.
