I offer up Teague and Dieng to Cleveland for Thompson and either crowder, shumpert or frye. We can get by with Tyus and brooks, and it gives us a better fit with Thompson, while also unloading Gorgui and Teague's deals.

Thompson has been terrible this year. He is way overpaid. Move Teague for some shooting.

So are Gorgui and Teague. Thompson fits what we need more, so we are swapping one bad deal for another, but it also allows us to dump Teague's deal in the process. I don't see anyone giving up good shooting for Teague's deal. Cleveland is looking for a PG, at least that is what the rumors say.

Dieng is better than Thompson right now. We would be doing the Cavs a huge favor.

I agree with you, Cool! That would be a bad deal for the Wolves. If we're going to trade Gorgui it should be for a wing who can actually move the needle for us. To do that, we need to find the a mirror image -- that is, we need to find a team (1) with a wing version of Gorgui at around Gorgui's annual salary, (2) that would prefer a PF version of their wing -- i.e, someone like Gorgui in exchange for someone like Bazemore.

I think you're attaching value to Gorgui that he doesn't have. Guys like Bazemore have more value and are available because the team is looking to rebuild. Gorgui doesn't fit there needs.

Is Will Barton a realistic target? Good defender, cheap salary and shoots the ball reasonably well.

I like Barton. He would fit well with our current roster. Don't know that Denver would move him, and he is a FA at the end of the year so we wouldn't' want to give up much.

Playoff teams don't look to the G-League for a source of production down the stretch and into the playoffs. That's just not how that normally works. They pick a guy up, let's say Amille Jefferson for kicks, keep him with the NBA team for a season or two for development at a higher level and then work him into the rotation to see if he can play at this level and hope he sticks. Maybe they're lucky and catch lightning in a bottle -- ie. Jeremy Lin with New York.

More often than not, though, the player flames out and is either back in the D/G-League, overseas, or out of basketball entirely. I think some of you have hopes and dreams of unearthing the next J.J. Barea or Hassan Whiteside, but the reality is that most of those guys are closer to being unemployed than they are making a career out of basketball.

We need legitimate NBA production from proven guys in the league. That's going to cost something and it comes down to whether you think we're in "win now" mode or if we're still playing the long game despite some aggressive moves this past off-season.

I don't disagree with much you say here but on the other hand what are the chances that the vet you bring in works out?

I think the Wolves are playing the long game to some extent. If they were all in they would have signed some wing vet FA at some point this year and MGH wouldn't be playing and Belly might not be playing these somewhat surprising competent looking minutes at SF.

I think everyone on this board wants to see some sort of vet especially wing player added. The question is depending on whether is more playing the long game or going for it much more aggressively how much you are willing to give up. Unless something pretty surprising happens it looks like te Wolves are going to go the buyout route which...may not have much positive impact but doesn't cost anything in terms of assets both in the short term and long term including salary.

It's worth mentioning that there are 30 more games left. There isn't a ton of time to integrate players before games really matter. That doesn't mean you don't make a move "if it makes the club better" but it's something to consider especially if you are looking to give up something for a guy that might end up being a rental.

Utah is supposedly making Rodney Hood available. One problem with him is he has had problems staying healthy. He turned 25 in October and is a guy that can light it up from 3 and has good size. He is a RFA this summer and there are gonna be plenty of SGs on the market so you may keep him at a reasonable number. I don't think I could give up a 1st rounder or Patton for him though and I have always liked him. If I thought he was gonna be healthy it would be something I would consider more seriously.

Teague and Patton for Lou Williams, Teodosic, and Wes Johnson.

I don't think that'd be enough for this version of Lou Williams, but I could be wrong.

So you want to give up Patton and a 1st round pick for what could be 2 rentals in Teo and Lou and then likely have to pay Wes Johnson 6 million per next season? No thanks.

I didn't say a first round pick, and we would need to be able to sign Williams for the deal to make sense. It would be a great deal for us.

Like Cam said I don't think that's gonna be enough to get Lou. A 2nd rounder from us isn't gonna move the needle much.

What do you think it would take to get Lou?

Lets revisit this a bit. We are so used to considering Lou Williams in terms of a 6th man. Right now the guy is closer to CJ McCollum as an offensive player than Jamal Crawford. He is REALLY good offensive guard (23 ppg 16th in the league) and has been for a couple years now. He is likely even better this year but the guy is a pretty good offensive player. So Lou is a really good player even if he is older. Yes he is a FA next year and yes you are gonna have to pay him so...how much do you want to give up for that? In addition he is a pretty high usage gaurd. How many teams will give up the assets to get him when they may have somewhat diminishing returns from probably playing him as a bench layer 6th man?

In addition why would the Clippers want to just give him away? Lou, Blake and Jordon is a pretty decent top 3 players and they haven't had those guys playing together much this season. They have some other guys like Rivers and Teo that are good also. IF....they can get and stay healthy (with Cousins injured) they have pretty good shot at making the playoffs and who knows maybe they surprise a team in the playoffs depending on what seed they end up with. It just doesn't seem like that team is really looking to do a full rebuild anytime soon right or wrong. Oh yeah if Gallo could actually play...yeah you are gonna have to offer a 1st rounder or some young promising player to get Lou at minimum. Its probably one of those deals where Lou is worth more to the Clippers than he is to some other teams and that will keep a deal from happening. We will see.

Let's start by saying I am NOT married to either keeping Patton or our 1st rounder from OKC. I get the idea of drafting and developing, but these later picks are an absolute crapshoot. I would seriously consider moving either for a good player...even a guy in last year of deal.

Your thinking is logical, Cam. But I see several reasons the Cavs might go for the deal I suggested. First and foremost is the seemingly horrific chemistry issues between Love and his teammates. Second is Love's contract and the fact that the deal I suggested would provide them with a lot of salary relief. Finally, the Cavs' biggest weakness is defense and Gorgui (believe it or not) would be a significant step up from Love defensively.

The deal would be even more enticing to Cleveland now with Love out 4-6 weeks. I'm not sure I'd so the deal if I were Thibs, but I wanted to get a sense from others.

I would even give up the 1st. I have said from the beginning if you get an all star you can give up the 1st. Teague/wiggins/Butler/love/towns.

Good lineup. I would be down for that. But how would love react playing for taylor and would taylor want him back
