Michael Beasley.

Post by Hicks123 [enjin:6700838] »

Was just reading some positive comments about Beasley. I am happy to see he has seemingly found his niche, and is now having success again. He was always a supremely talented player, but we all know his brain tended to interrupt his positive contributions with a lot of stupidity.

He is actually a guy I wanted to see the Wolves bring back this offseason as there was some growth shown last year. He would be a great trade target for us, but he has seemingly found a home (at least temporarily) with the Knicks. Fans seem to really be getting behind him. We could really use his skill set on our second unit.

Beasley is a great example of the critical importance of the mental aspect of the game to NBA success. Beasley is as physical gifted - size, athleticism and skill set -- as any player to ever wear an NBA uniform. His college stats were nearly identical to Kevin Durant's. But those physical gifts that made him a great college freshman weren't enough to be more than a journeyman in the NBA. His mind sabotaged his body.

You pretty much nailed it Lip although I think his body also was a bit of an issue. He seemed to always have some injury pop up or nah him as well.

Jon K this offseason shared that both when Beas was with the Wolves and even recently scouts and NBA team employees said that the problem with Brad was he just wasn't reliable. That meant both on and off the court. Jon also said he really believes Beas is mostly a pretty good guy teammates actually like him. He is just a bit weird and like you said just didn't make it mentally. I think Jon told one story about Beas on the podcast but he said he had a lot more. Lol

I'm with Hicks I was a bit intruiged by Beas this offseason as well. Was his time with the Bucks legit or did they get about all you can get out of him? It looks like he might be plenty useful as a bench scorer in the right situation. At this point of the season you either look for your own Beasely type guy (nobody is available that is as talented as Beas...except maybe Josh Smith but that ship has sailed). The Wolves basically went for their own flawed scoring guy/s when the signed Bazz and to some extent Crawford. Bazz hasn't worked out. Crawford has basically been what you expect. If you are looking to add some talent at this point of the season there are various options for reclamation projects/bonus talent acquisitions.

Vet talents like a Gerald Green.

Younger flame outs like a Derrick Williams.

Guys that haven't really made it at all and are toiling away somewhere else like the G-League. Christian Wood comes to mind. Whiteside is the guy that comes to mind of a big time success story here because he really didn't do much in the league before being out of it and basically anyone coulda had that guy.

You can also hope to just find the next decent rotation guy along the lines of a JJ Barea or Delly etc. if you get really lucky you find a Bruce Bowen, Danny Green type.
