Of course they would take an unprotected 1st from the worst franchise in basketball history. Unfortunately we can't offer one to transfer over until 2019 because of the Payne trade.

I dig that my use of "worst franchise in NBA history" is catching on...

It ties up so many loose ends in discussions. Adds some zing to the message.

I thought we actually passed the Clippers a few years ago for that title. That's where I got it from.

Whoa, whoa, whoa. We can't give up the superior player with brimming upside AND a first-round pick for a lesser player who's over 30! AND we don't need anyone else who can score the ball! Are you mad!? Or do you have something against unicorns!?

* Innocent sarcasm included. This also probably saved the diehard Rubio fans some time as that is close to what they'll say along with concerns about defense, which is justified to an extent.

Actually, we can't trade a 1st round pick in advance before 2020 at the earliest because our 1st rounder in the Payne deal comes due in 2018. But even then, it's lottery protected so if we continue to suck in 2018 the pick wouldn't be due until 2019, pushing to 2021 the date we could give up another first. Fact is, we won't be trading any future 1st at this point unless its a draft day deal where we make the pick and package it.

As for Dragic, he just doesn't do it for me. We need defense and he's a defensive downgrade from Ricky and an even bigger downgrade from Dunn over the long term. And it's 30 years old, which means he'll start to decline when our core three start to hit their prime. I might have some interest in dealing Ricky or Dunn for Dragic if we were on pace to win 40-45 games this season. But we're on pace to win fewer games than last season!! Therefore, this franchise still has to take the long term view.

I continue to believe we should refrain from trading any of our current players until next summer except for Payne, Bazz, Belly, Aldrich, Rush, Jones or Hill. Unfortunately, I don't see us getting anything of value for any of those guys or any combination. And we can't combine them with a future 1st before 2020. As for combining them with second round picks, last I looked we don't have many because we've already dealt a bunch of our future seconds.

Bottom line is that we're going to have to ride out the rest of this season with our current roster and, when it comes to what I consider our core players - KAT, Zach, Andrew, Ricky and Gorgui - I think that's the right thing unless by some miracle the Bucks agree to swap Giannis for Andrew

Patience my friends patience.

Dunn is our future point guard. You simply can not write off a guy after less than half a season of NBA basketball. His defence is already superb and his offence will come. Plus Tyus Jones is only 20 year olds and already seems like a capable back up. Im not too concerned about the point guard position.

Kemba Walker (age 26): 13,299 regular season minutes played

John Wall (age 26): 16,250 regular season minutes played

James Harden (age 27): 18,939 regular season minutes played

Steph Curry (age 28): 18,358 regular season minutes played

Russell Westbrook (age 28): 21,107 regular season minutes played

Mike Conley (age 29): 21,412 regular season minutes played

Kyle Lowry (age 30): 20,964 regular season minutes played

Goran Dragic (age 30): 16,302 regular season minutes played

For those that debate against the idea of acquiring Dragic and use his age as part of your supporting argument, take a look at this. The guy may be 30-years old, but his minutes total is closer to 26-year olds John Wall's and Kemba Walker's than players close to his age. Lowry, Conley, Curry, Westbrook and Harden all have more miles on their bodies and I'm 100% sure that every one of us would ignore their age when discussing whether or not we'd like to add them.

I don't think Goran Dragic started playing meaningful minutes until 2012 when he was 26.

The mileage is significant, but father time is more significant. Fact is, regardless of how many minutes your've played, the body simply starts to decline with age. If you look back through history, you see that NBA players typically start to decline between ages 32-35 and declined very quickly at 35. There are exceptions, but not many. He's 8-9 years older than our core three. That's very significant.
