Yeah. But Indiana is in a big market where all the top FAs want to play and then they have such a lucky history of #1 picks.

[Note: I think Indiana has had only one top 9 draft pick in all that time... Jonathon Bender at #5. And they took Paul George at #10.]

It's really amazing how many wrong decisions need to be made to suck as long as we have......

Yeah and there has to be some just dumb luck too. I mean how many top 5 picks have the Wolves had that were supposed to be really good players during that time? Meanwhile Memphis gave away Pau Gasol (reminds me to some extent of the Cousins trade) and ended up with an absolutely terrific player in Marc. And remember that's the organization Mchale worked over in getting Love plus assets and salary relief for Mayo who is out of the league and Memphis got nothing in return when he left. The Wolves have had their screw ups but damn some stuff just went horribly wrong too and so little seemed to go right. Peak dropping into their laps was good...then it ended up being bad.

To be fair, I don't think Wes Johnson or Derrick Williams were considered "sure things" and that it can be chalked up to dumb luck.

Remember this stat about Wes Johnson... he never averaged 17 ppg. EVER. At any level... not even in high school. The Wolves jumped "all in" on the guy after he averaged a career high 16.5 ppg as a 22-year old collegian.

I disagree on Williams. It was supposed to be a 2 player draft. I didn't buy in (Q swayed me even further) but a lot of other people did. I won't disagree on Wes but I'll say Wes Johnson was at worst a low floor guy. Turns out the floor was so low you needed some serious excavation to get to that basement. Lol
