ROY: Who you got?

Post by TeamRicky [enjin:6648771] »

Who wins it this year? Philly has three good candidates: Simmons, Saric and Embiid

I think Simmons wins it rather easily.

I think he's going to be flirting with triple doubles. He'll definitely get enough run.

I suspect you are right, abe...Simmons has some freakish Magic Johnson-like skills that we have not seen in a long time.

That said, if he does win ROY, I predict he will do it with both the lowest shooting percentage and highest number of TOs of any ROY in history.

Couldn't resist looking... Iverson averaged 4.4 TOs in his rookie season. Steve Francis was at 4.0. Michael Carter-Williams was at 3.5.

Good work, Abe...that sets the bar. Simmons averaged 5.3 TOs per game in Summer League (30 MPG), so the record is certainly there for the taking. You could argue that he will be playing with better teammates during the regular season, but more than offsetting that will be more MPG and much better defenses, so I would set his turnover over/under at 5.5 per game.

Well, I've nailed the last two and I'm going to get this one right as well - Simmons.

Not even Pete Maravich or George McGinnis averaged that much.

Summer League is a different animal all its own. A mishmash of players. Guys playing pro ball for the first time. A general sense of amateur hour. Top players are feeling things out a bit.

Consider...

Towns: 13 ppg / 7 reb / 39.6% fg / 3+ TOs / 6+ Fouls (2x with 9 fouls!)

Simmons would have to completely dominate the ball to have that many turnover's . I see most of his mistakes coming in transation.
I say 3 per .
