Obviously, LST, you did not listen to the podcast. Glen said Pek will be here in the next few weeks.

I like your idea generally, but it assumes KG would agree to meet or workout with Thibs and I'm not sure he would. I suspect the fact they haven't met yet is NOT because Thibs hasn't asked. I suspect KG will meet when he's ready and that means only after he's made a final decision on whether he intends to play. If he wants to play, then I think Thibs should put him on the roster and see what happens. If not, then I agree with those who don't see KG as a fit for any role in management or ownership.

Assuming we get to a buy-out situation, I would amend your recommendation slightly and offer the full $8 million (rather than the $5 million you suggest) as the buy-out amount in recognition of KG's career contributions and iconic stature. A full salary offer might also help ensure the relationship ends on reasonably good terms. The $3 million difference would have absolutely no significant impact on the Wolves' cap situation or ownership's bottom line. Therefore, the $5 million offer seems petty and beneath the dignity of a future hall-of-famer who put the Timberwoves franchise on the map.

I have never liked KG. Respected him as player, but never liked him. Like others have said, I never understood people here wanting KG to stick around as mentor, partial owner, etc. The guy is an a-hole. This is NOT a man I would want mentoring and working with our team. Also, what always gets lost is that most players just aren't teachers. They are students. It takes a special, and unique talent to coach/mentor. Haven't seen anything close to the skills needed to make this transition.

And I am sick and tired of the mantra that we may hurt someones feelings. I tell you what.....if I showed up to work 1/2 of the time, and then only worked a 1/2 day, I would be fired despite what I did in my past. Why is this different? KG made almost $15,000 PER MINUTE last season. And didn't we pay him well over $200MM back in the day? I think I am done doing him favors. I would offer him $3MM to walk away, or I would sit him in a suit and tie behind the bench each and every night. Some will tout KG's positive impact last season. Certainly didn't result in any wins for that club. He looked decent because we were freakin' BRUTAL!!!!! If we are going to have success this year, it isn't going to be because of 15 minutes in 35 games from KG. And if we are really relying on KG, then we are screwed as far as wins and success go.

Damn! In the minority once again.

[edit: insensitive remark removed. I had a bad week and the piling on KG put me over the edge. ]

Eh if you really wanted KG gone would you really be all that upset Glen has to pay him the full 8 million of he retired? Does KG deserve the money? Eh um no he probably doesn't but whatever that's where we are at now. This is very complex issue. There isn't really anything simple about it. ypu may not like KG and that's fair but the guy has been a terrific basketball player and reasonably good citizen in general (as a human being in the general community as far as I know) so he probably deserves to be shown some reasonable amount of respect. How much of a price tag does Glen have on that respect? Idk. We may find out soon.

Thanks Lip.

I'll add that I asked Wolfson on Twitter if Glen could talk to a current player (obviously meaning kg) about ownership and he said "NO" but said Glen could basically communicate via back channels. I know that sort of thing happens but I think Wolfson takes that stuff for grants too much. He really pushed Glen about talking about changes to the CBA and Glen forcefully said he could not talk about it and Wolfson proceeded to ask dumb questions which was very poor form. Based on the way Glen talked in his chat with Wolfson he seems to have drawn a line in the sand that KG has to first decide if he is going to play and if he decides not to play then they can talk about what happens next and NOT before that. To me there seems to be a number of obvious reasons.

1. Like you said they may not really see a spot for him and Glen knows even IF he was interested in KG having a piece of ownership he cannot talk to KG about that till after his career is over.

2. Glen isn't interested in causing problemswith the league or setting a pattern of looking like taking care of players after their career is over. I would think maybe promising a current player a job in the front office or coaching staff probably would be ok but not ownership. Nope not going to happen and I wonder if that's THE thing for KG and that's THE thing Glem will not talk to him about because he can't. I'm not saying KG having a shot at a piece of Wolves ownership especially since Glen told Wolfson he wasn't looking for any investors but even if that was something Glen would consider (might be doubtful) they can't have a sit down till after KG calls it quits. I would imagine Glen would be willing to at least sit down with KG and chat about what KG might offer as a small share owner. That doesn't mean Glen would do anything after that meeting though.

Again this is all my speculation from what I have gathered. What say you Lip?

i'd offer him full amount buyout. Wolves are under salary floor level. So it carries no effect on them. If he wants to play the record breaking 22nd season I'm sure Doc Rivers will make it happen. I just want to see more minutes for Aldrich and Dieng.
