Forum Needs a New Topic - Here's One
Suppose the Wolves end up with a top 3 pick, what would you do with each option in the top 3? Here's mine:
1) Draft Brandon Ingram
2) Take Ingram if he's there. If he's not, shop Simmons to the highest bidder looking for an established young star (Favors, Noel, Gordon, Middleton, Gallo, McCollum, MKG, Winslow, Beal) and a at least 1 #1 pick in this years draft.
3) In the top 3 we don't need a rookie not named Ingram or Simmons. So again you look to trade for an established player and a future #1 to replace the picks we owe Boston.

Only thing I'd add is if they were to trade a top 3 pick for an established young star plus a pick I'd prefer the pick be in next years draft. They have enough young talent this year and I'd prefer they fill the open slots with short term bench players. That'd also give them a pick next year when they'll likely lose theirs in the Payne deal.
Otherwise I agree, Ingram or trade out of the spot unless they truly believe Simmons will mature into a LeBron like talent.

No. 1 overall pick:
- Draft Brandon Ingram without hesitation.
No. 2 overall pick:
- Draft Brandon Ingram without hesitation if he's there.
- If Ingram is not available, I offer the pick, or rights to Ben Simmons, to Utah for Derrick Favors, no additional pieces from the Jazz.
- If Ingram is unavailable and the Jazz decline my offer, I select Ben Simmons to keep.
No. 3 overall draft pick:
- If Ingram and Simmons are gone, this means that one of Bender, Murray, or Hield did not somehow leap them, which is what's expected. Obviously if one of the two are there, you already know what I'd do by reading previous options in my post.
- I'd offer the pick and Shabazz Muhammad to Chicago for Jimmy Butler. Working out the salaries would be tough, but if both teams wanted it done, it could be accomplished. The Bulls contending window has closed, evident by them missing the playoffs for the first time since 2008, and a rebuild is necessary. They might rebuild around Butler or deem that he's more valuable as a trade chip to jumpstart the process. I would go get him if I could. He's one of the top wing defenders in the NBA, a 20/5/5 guy with decent efficiency, and he's signed through at least 2018-19 with a player option for 2019-20.
- If the Bulls decline my offer, I'd offer the pick and Shabazz Muhammad to Philadelphia for Nerlens Noel and top-10 protected 2018 first round draft pick from Sacramento (unprotected in 2019).
2015-16 N. Noel: 11.2 PPG / 8.1 RPG / 1.8 APG / 1.5 BPG / 1.7 SPG
I believe he'd be a very fine option next to both Towns and Dieng. His defensive prowess in guarding the P&R and protecting the rim would be welcomed. Also, he'd be fun to watch in the P&R offensively with Rubio. He just turned 22-years old on April 10th.
- If the Bulls and Sixers decline my offer, I'd probably select Jamal Murray, though I'm open to other realistic options such as trading down. That's just really hard to project right now and fully dependent on where a certain player falls.

Cam, the one issue I have with your scenario is the rights to Ben Simmons should be able to get you more than Derrick Favors. Teams will overpay to get a potential franchise player to build around. If Simmons manages to keep that cache, we should be able to drive the price up beyond just Favors.

If Favors wasn't 24-years old averaging the numbers he is across the board with a PER around 22.00 and scoring efficiency on par with Anthony Davis, while also being a vital piece to Utah's defense that has been great, I'd agree with you. I don't even think it's a no-brainer that Utah does Favors for Simmons, in all honesty. Asking or demanding for more would be a greedy play, IMO, and could potentially kill a deal.

If that's true you move on to the next bidder. The potential of Ben Simmons, again if he keeps his cache through the pre-draft process, is greater than Derrick Favors. Favors is a good player who may never be an all star.

I would take Ben Simmons before I would move him for Derrick Favors straight up.

I think people underestimate just how good Favors is. Maybe it's because he's been in the league for six years or because he plays in Utah, I'm not sure.
For single seasons; played in the NBA/BAA; in the regular season; in 2015-16; requiring Rebounds Per Game >= 8.0 and Points Per Game >= 16.0 and Blocks Per Game >= 1.0 and Steals Per Game >= 1.0; sorted by descending Win Shares.
1. Paul Millsap, 10.1 WS
2. Andre Drummond, 7.4 WS
3. Anthony Davis, 7.3 WS
4. Derrick Favors, 7.2 WS
5. DeMarcus Cousins, 5.7 WS
Only one of them hasn't been selected to an All-Star team: Favors. Doesn't mean he isn't playing All-Star caliber basketball.
I'll take youth + big-time production with Favors over high potential in Simmons, especially considering we have a lot of high potential players as the roster's currently constructed. I'm fine with that.

Re: Forum Needs a New Topic - Here's One
One thing that's been brought up before is being mindful of the number of mouths to feed on the roster. Anyone on a rookie contract is going to look to cash in big on their first veteran deal. We currently have four guys on rookie deals that need shots - and lots of them: Bazz, Wiggins, LaVine, and Towns.
Luckily we have a PG that would prefer dealing out assists versus shooting - almost to a fault. But still, there is only so much room for another scorer and none of our current scorers are at a stage in their career where they will be willing to sacrifice their next contract in order to chase a ring. That's what vets do, not super talented rookies.
In my opinion, if we draft Hield or Ingram - two guys that absolutely need to score to maximize their effectiveness - something has to give at some point.

1) Trade our pick and a bench player for Blake Griffin, if no select Ingram roll - with him
2) Trade down for two firsts, aiming at Sabonis and Baldwin - if no select Simmons and roll with hin
3) Trade down route 2 or trade pick for established 4- don't like anyone as a sure thing at this spot unless Simmons is available.
