I don't see the difference of Brooks and Mitchell personally. I think the same criticisms of Mitchell apply to Brooks. I like the defensive guru approach. I rank Van Gundy ahead of Thibs only because he doesn't have the hard ass vibe I get from Thibs and I think Van Gundy would be able to reach Wiggins along with creating a system for our D. Would like Thibs too, but I love Van Gundy for this team.

It's been a LOOONNG time since JVG has coached but I feel pretty certain his isn't a cuddly teddy bear coach.

Though we may compete for and even make the playoffs next year, I can't see us as a real contender. The Mitchell situation reminds me of Mark Jackson in Golden State. He's here for a few years to develop the team into a playoff team before it is eventually handed off to a better coach to put it over the top. I see that coach being hired in a year or two, and I suspect it will be Joerger when he is fired from Memphis.

As much as we like to paint this year as a golden opportunity for a premier coaching hire, realistically there are great candidates available seemingly every year. I think we'll be equally well positioned to hire one of these top tier coaches once we've got team of 22 year olds competing in the playoffs, rather than simply a bunch of young guys with potential. For that reason, I don't see retaining Sam this season as a particularly big issue.

Thanks for posting Reppile....would love to hear from you more often.

I agree that keeping Sam another year wouldn't suddenly derail the trajectory of the team. We are still bad and young enough to allow for plenty of growth prior to hitting Sam's ceiling. But still....why not aim higher, as it's much easier to do that now since he's not under contract right now?

Ditto. Love the fact they have engaged a search firm and are taking a very professional approach to this process. If Sam is interested, let him throw his hat in the ring (which he will of course, being the incumbent). But using a search firm and making this a publicly known process should result in a wide net being cast, meaning it's not just JVG, Thibs, Brooks and Mitchell. Hopefully some non-conventional candidates and up-and-coming assistants are also on the slate.

My question is who besides Taylor and Milt are on the interview team? I think they should get an outside basketball guy that currently isn't employed by an existing franchise (and who isn't a candidate for the coaching role) also be on the panel. Doug Collins? Danny Ferry? Mark Jackson? Someone like that, but again, assuming they aren't an actual applicant for the role.

Sure Van Gundy hasn't done this in a while but Hubie Brown helped change the culture in Memphis after a hiatus so maybe JVG could do that here.

Add for Brooks, was he regularly agitating his players like Mitchell reportedly does? I don't remember that being the case.

Also add me to the list of those hoping some up and coming assistants are added to the list. This isn't a bad tidea to grab the right one to grow with the team. This team isn't full of superstars that need the big name. . .yet.

Bottom line is the goal should be to get someone in here to be our "forever" coach. I want this team to grow old and crusty together like the Spurs did.

I know you were just throwing out names... but I'd very much appreciate it if the Wolves stayed far, far away from Mark Jackson in every capacity. I don't want him as a coach. Or a mentor. Or a pastor. Or a consultant.

I believe there are some real issues there...

Comforting to know they're hiring an outside firm to put together this list for Glenn! I'm not a huge fan of Glenn making the ultimate decision but I feel 100% better knowing that he'll be forced to consider adding new members to the country club rather than just rotating them through over and over!

Phenom, what do you think of Steve Wojociekowski? Former Duke assistant/player, think he's head coaching somewhere else but can't think of it off hand

I really don't know anything about him other than what you said about him although I feel like I've heard his name bounce around at one time.
