Guaranteed contracts in the NBA drive me nuts. If a player is unable to perform he should be able to be cut from the roster and his salary paid with some form of insurance. Tying up cap space and a roster spot with a guy like Pek is not fair to the team or its fans...
At some point, the insurance stuff will kick in, right?
How long does the guy have to sit out to make that happen? (I might have asked this before... but I forgot the answer.)
We only get some money back after 41 games missed. To get cap relief, he has to retire because of injury with Medical documentation. I doubt he will do this soon because in his mind I think he still probably believes he could squeeze one more contract. These players will never have an opportunity to make a Million bucks a year in any endeavor, so even for someone who has been grossly overpaid to date, it is hard for them to want to quit due to greed.

Hopefully this doesn't come across as too confusing, I'd ask the question this way...
Given KG has been called the best thing to happen to Towns and it's impossible to separate KG's mentorship from Town's success. Would you not sign KG to that contract and risk Town's potentially not being the player he is?

What? Towns is the player he made himself to be. Giving that credit to KG is horrendously disrespectful. KG perhaps made the transition from college to NBA easier in some areas knowledge-wise, but the pure skill set and athleticism Towns possesses has nothing to do with KG sitting on the bench for 44 games.

....and as we've said a gazillion times, the Wolves could have hired KG as a player development specialist this past offseason.
I do think KG was a tremendous help to the team when he was actually able to play. I think KAT starting next to KG for those handful of games did help him, although we've seen what has happened to the defense ever since KG has been out of the lineup. So whatever defensive wisdom he's imparted or demonstrated hasn't really translated to success on the floor.

If he is still on the team next year does he do a Kobe farewell tour?
I don't see KG as a farewell tour type at least nothing anywhere close to Kobe.
God, let's hope not. This team needs to be focused on making the playoffs next year. Hopefully if KG can even play, he readily accepts a role coming off the bench for spot minutes and that's it. I'm not sure how much I want to mess with our starting lineup unless a guy like Horford or Favors is added into the mix.

I think Dieng has earned a starting spot and KG's defensive presence could be more useful with the bench players.

Agree, we no longer need KG as a token starter for the first 4 or 5 minutes. He should be a spot player that is the 9th or 10th man when healthy.
KG should be used exactly opposite of what he was this season. He should be rested throughout the regular season playing only a few minutes here and there. Unleash him (relatively speaking) if they're in a tight race for a final playoff spot, or once the playoffs begin should they make it.
