This is exciting. I really started to believe it would be the predictable "remove the interim tag" from Sam. Wolves fans should be really happy about this development. Hey guys, we're actually trying.

Exactly. This is outstanding news. Mitchell can't survive a coaching search like that

I can feel myself getting excited even while knowing in the back of my head that it's still the same mistake-ridden ownership doing this search, but please God bring Thibs to Minnesota.
Also, because he's part of the topic, I listened to Thibs on The Lowe Post yesterday (the podcast is from March) and he was talking about how he tried to get Taj Gibson to start shooting more corner threes instead of that long 2 from the baseline. He also talked about how Doc had discussed getting KG to shoot more threes as well, but KG was just too comfortable and set in his ways from 18-20 feet. Those tidbits came from Lowe and him talking about whether Blake Griffin should take more threes. Thibs basically said he'd have him work on corner threes and see how it goes from there, but also said that Griffin's so good out of the P&R that he didn't want to take away a dominating strength of his.
I love Thibs. He brings the right identity that I think this team needs, he's way better as an offensive coach than most give him credit for, and he's just a winner. That guy just pulls wins out of his ass. If you don't believe me, go look at the Bulls roster that made it to the second round of the 2013 NBA Playoffs. Beat Brooklyn in the first round, which was miraculous at the time, and even won a game against the MVP-led Miami Heat.

I'd like him here too, but do you think he's leaning towards NY or LA. You know, just because of these guys and their egos.

Coaches just want to win. They'll look at talent already on the roster before looking at location. Also, when we talk about Thibs, we have to remember that this guy is the definition of a basketball junkie. No wife, no kids, just basketball. Wherever he goes, he's going to win games. He's not worried about off the court bullshit.

If LA gets a top 2 pick they'll be pretty enticing. They have some good young talent and a lot of cap room to get some players. I think New York is poor job due to being Phil's puppet. I think we have the best job though. Great young mold-able talent and a top 5 pick that can be used as a good trade chip. We are a quality bench away from being a playoff team.

FWIW Wolfson said today on his scoops podcast that Thibs has been backing away from having to have complete control of a franchise.
Re: Wolves Back Mitchell
So Glen is hiring an outside firm to help him with the coaching by search. That actually makes a ton of sense. Glen could still end up making the wrong selection (plus is this firm actually good?)* but at least he seems to be making a real effort to do this thing right as best he can given the circumstances.
* It was reported the Browns paid for someone to do a report to tell them who to draft and it said Teddy but they took Manziel because they are the Browns. With the amount of good coaches available it would seem Glen would get someone that's at least as good as Sam and likely an improvement.
The fun thing about this coaching search is a lot of these guys have some actual connection to the Wolves franchise. Brooks, Thibs, JVG. That makes things interesting. When was the last time so many available coaches that were so legit (even McHale) had legit ties to MN?

Ditto. Love the fact they have engaged a search firm and are taking a very professional approach to this process. If Sam is interested, let him throw his hat in the ring (which he will of course, being the incumbent). But using a search firm and making this a publicly known process should result in a wide net being cast, meaning it's not just JVG, Thibs, Brooks and Mitchell. Hopefully some non-conventional candidates and up-and-coming assistants are also on the slate.
My question is who besides Taylor and Milt are on the interview team? I think they should get an outside basketball guy that currently isn't employed by an existing franchise (and who isn't a candidate for the coaching role) also be on the panel. Doug Collins? Danny Ferry? Mark Jackson? Someone like that, but again, assuming they aren't an actual applicant for the role.
I know you were just throwing out names... but I'd very much appreciate it if the Wolves stayed far, far away from Mark Jackson in every capacity. I don't want him as a coach. Or a mentor. Or a pastor. Or a consultant.
I believe there are some real issues there...
Understood, I was spit-balling. I'd just like to see Glen bring in an outside perspective into the process. A "basketball guy" but without any ties to the franchise.
