I've seen you make that point before. What garbage do you think we'd be taking back that the Wolves would sign off on? I know I'd be looking to move him for a future 1st. If you do get a player in return, chances are they're another young player on a similar deal. Or if you do trade him for a vet, they're not going to be expensive because of the contract Bazz has that the other team would have to match. I just don't see how you think the Wolves could possibly take back a bad deal in the trade. That makes no sense from a logical standpoint.
The money has to match, but the years do not. Bazz comes off the books next year and we can use that extra cap space to sign any Free Agent we want. If we trade Bazz and get back a stiff on a longer deal - we are on the hook for a longer time frame. I just don't think it's a big deal to let guys walk at the end of their deals. It would seem to allow for more flexibility going forward.
Of course you won't trade Bazz for someone who has longer contract and whom you don't really want. But trading him for someone who should be better fit and who is still in his rookie deal would be better move than letting him to walk because we would have Bird rights for that player we received.
Players that I would try to target by offering Shabazz:
Tony Snell from Chicago. Really good defender who is better three point shooter than Shabazz. He is much worse in other parts of offence tough and it seems that he recently lost his place in rotation. So I assume they would be ready to dump him. He is also in last year of his current contract, so we would have one year time to look if he shows enough to keep him. I see that he could still become Thabo Sefolosha type of player for Wolves. I would probably try to get 2nd round pick in addition to Snell in exchange to Shabazz.
Ben McLemore from Sacramento. I'm not sure if they would be ready to dump him but lately Karl has played even Seth Curry in front of him. (McLemore has played less than 20 minutes per game since all star game.) He will be also in last year of his current contract and I believe he would prefer some other team if Karl is still coaching Sacramento after next year. Shabazz could maybe even start for Sacramento if they choose to trade Gay as has been rumored.
