Pek's current contract wouldn't have been eligible now anyway. Nobody on the team would.

Adding Aldrich AND Pau? With Towns and Gorgui already on the roster?

The two-year thing makes sense. And it's Pau-freaking-Gasol, so holy cow, that could be a real help. But if we sign him, that probably means Aldrich is going to continue to play just 15 minutes per game. It's just that in this new market, that's worth 7 million per year. Wow. And we definitely wouldn't see much Bjelica unless it's at the 3. And Payne? I have to think Thibs would be trying to move him for a 2028 second rounder and a bag of chips.

How would these rotation minutes look? Here's a stab at it. Man that's tough to limit the minutes so much for those guys.

We've already talked about dieng likely commanding 15-20 mil next season. Has shabazz really played into something over 10 - 12 mil per though? I'd like to keep both, but it seems very likely we can keep Dieng while also retaining all of towns, Wiggins, and Lavine. I know it's been stated before, but what % of the cap can a player like Wiggins command for his first max?

Here's to hoping we have the next young nucleus that follows the Spurs mold. I can see Wiggins and Towns taking a 20 mil per deal for the sake of the team. They both seem to have that personality and will put winning over everything. I'm not sure about LaVine or Dieng. Shabazz I'm sure will look to cash out elsewhere and find time as a starter.

Wiggins and Lavine will likely qualify for the 20% max and KAT could easily qualify for the Rose exception 25% if he can get some all-star starts, All-NBA nods or do what monsters like him do and win an NBA MVP on his rookie deal. So best case scenario they take up 60% of the cap. The more likely scenario I believe is gonna be 65% of the cap (you never know though because even Anthony Davis only got the 20%). That's why they're called mini-maxes. You can still build a really good team around them. It's when you're looking to add 3 30% guys when things get tricky.

Thanks khans. After years of suffering that is awesome news to know we have so much promise and the flexibility to sustain it. Even at 60% we should be able to retain Dieng and field good depth. Losing those 1sts may come back to haunt us though ( or is it just the one to the Hawks? ).

I think its safe to say Pek, Payne, and KG are not in the rotation equation. KAT, Pau, and Gorgs are going to be the main bigs with Nema and Cole cleaning up the role slots.

Was just typing something similar. Payne and Pek hold zero weight and with KGs and Gasols age we should carry 4 capable other bigs.

Yeah, I get that. But still, that would be 8 roster spots tied up with bigs (even if 2 of them can't play). I'd be surprised if Thibs felt comfortable going into the season with only 7 wings and PGs.

I hope you're right LST. Then does Thibs look to retain him in some fashion within the organization? What do you think the chances are that this medical retirement happens with Pek? Hasn't it been two seasons since he has actually provided anything? The NBA should really look into a way for teams to get out of contracts like his.

Yeah, I mean it's a great problem to (possibly) have.

Still, if I'm Gasol and I get a similar 2 year offer from the Spurs or even the Raptors, it would be tough to turn down teams that would be more likely to be playing deep into the playoffs next year. If that matters to him at the end of his career, he'll probably do the same. Heck, even the Blazers made the playoffs last year. We're an up and coming team, but we're not there yet by any means. Pau would definitely help us get closer though!
