Likely because Paul, Griffen, and Jordan are on old max deals.

DJ, Blake and Chris still make 64 million between the 3 of them. Durant is gonna start at 26.6. That's 90.6 million of what, a 94 million dollar cap? That's 96% of the cap in 4 players and CP3's deal is up next year when he'll qualify for like a 30 million dollar/year deal. I just don't see it.

Going into the luxury tax which is like what 125mil??? Im not sure. I haven't looked at the restricted/unrestricted free agents they have, but I'd say they could find a way to do it.

You can't offer more than the MLE the Bi-Annual exception or the minimum once you are over the soft cap. They'd basically have to have 4 max deals, one 3.2 million dollar player, one MLE, one Bi-annual exception and the rest minimums. CP3 would have a cap hold next year to keep his bird rights to sign over the cap so they wouldn't get any cap relief from his deal being up either.

True, but they still have $64 million tied up in those three guys, and another $13 million tied up in 4 other players...so they are at $77 million for just 7 players and only have $17 in cap space (at the most). So not only can they not afford another max player, they are going to have to sign a bunch of very cheap players to fill out their roster.

Any talk of Durant signing with the Clippers includes unloading one of their existing max contracts...like acquiring KD in a sign and trade for Griffin.

Source: the #Pelicans have come to an agreement with ETwaun Moore. 4 years, $34 million.

Wolves SIT. THIS. ONE. OUT.

Go bargain shopping when the dust clears unless you can get Deng for a value deal like the Pacers got with Big Al.

Jared Dudley goes to the Suns on a 3 year 30 Million Deal. Not a bad contract in today's world.

Knicks and Noah have agreed to 4 years and 72 Million. That's a lot of cheese for a beat up past his prime hipster.

I think Noah was a hipster before there were hipsters. Lol

Per Aldridge

Kent Bazemore takes four years, $70M, turning down four/$72M from Houston and the Lakers, to go back to the Hawks, per source.

Happy for the guy and that deal is big but still not a max deal and they guy is a pretty good two way player. Kinda glad he stayed with the Hawks.

I'm sure glad to hear we didn't sign him. He'd be a backup and our highest paid player.

I'm loving that certain teams have spent their wad already so teams that are patient can mop up the good values when the initial spending spree subsides.

So with Bazemore staying in Atlanta, it appears Horford is moving on. Wish Wolves would have at least inquired. Maybe they still will. Or maybe Hawks will unload Millsap to make room. Hopefully this is the sort of thing Thibs and Layden are preparing for.
